Holy Shit is it Snowing
Posted by: Benjamin | Friday, December 19, 2008 at 11:29AM
I came to work today - big mistake.
First of all, it's like a fucking ghost town in here. Who can blame them; this morning was one of those rare occasions you just look up and feel in your bones that the weatherman was right.
Look outside: it's dumping. And to think that 72 hours ago was a mild day of Al Gore summer.
Here's what I want to ask:
- Did you get off work today? How did you swing that?
- Is your boss "all good" with it? Passive Aggressive?
- Do you feel you're as productive "working from home" i.e. "with no pants"
- If you're a manager, do you feel that your employees are as productive when working from home?
If you're a manager answering that final question, remember to factor-in the net productivity effect of each employee's time spent holding their genitals and watching the second showcase-showdown.

Great question. In fact I did get off work, though I'm picking my ass watching tivoed Chocolate News not Price is Right
My boss is on vacation so it's "all good"
no way do people work as hard from home. You can have bursts of productivity, but it's complete nonsense - especially if your job involves coordination with colleagues.
I'm at work as well, but there's no way I'll be here until 5. It's empty here too, and I don't think anyone still here is planning on staying that long.
I disagree by the way - I'm a web developer and I get infinitely more done from home - precisely because I don't have to deal with manangers.
I'm in, though my department is wicked slow pre-holidays and I'm not doing anything.
This morning I did call in late with kid-school-droppoff issues, but that was really just to piss off PSNonMom and the other haters with the special treatment I receive as a parent ;)
I would have biked to work but I had to get my car inspected before the sticker runs out and the transit cops descend upon it like Locus looking for ways to make the city money. Its one of those things you forget about and the next thing you know there are a pile of tickets on your ride. So I took it over to pep boys on 4th ave. My mechanic was too busy and closed til the new year. Then I took the f train in and listened to yesterday's podcasts from the Brian Lehrer show talking about all these new subway service cuts. I freelance as a video editor so my boss is my best friend since 9th grade. Kind of awesome. But bike riding in the snow is also amazing and fun, especially with a brake-less fixed gear bicycle. Can't wait to come home on the train, get my car from Pep boys and try and park the damn thing in a snow storm.

been in Park Slope since Oct. 01-2008...oh yeah and another new dad.
Are you kidding? I am on set, It's almost 10p, haven't done anything since before lunch which ended at 830p. Granted we started at 1p, and I was the guy who liked his job back when TIPS asked. I rode to work at the height of the storm, and will ride home probably as soon as all the runoff is frozen into sheet ice. My point is, yeah I went to work and I am still here.
My boss is an asshole (aren't most of them) and brought his snotty kid to work today so I got nothing done because I had to entertain her. honestly, leave your kids at home, people. No one is interested.
As an aside, the word verification on this post is "panti". Cheeky!!
