Whassup: Waterlogged Edition

Prepare for the coming of Gozer (via theweatherchannel.com)

Well, if you made it through the superstorm/Ghostbusters sky this week, you're probably mostly water by now (yes, geeks, I know: we're already 70%). The good news is that those extra molecules of H2O will make it easier for your body to absorb the molecules responsible for the sensations of fun and enjoyment. (Pretty sure that's how science works.) Welcome to Whassup: Waterlogged Edition:

* Thursday, July 19: Pretty Good Friends w/OK Go!, Williamsburg Waterfront: Eugene Mirman and his cast of merry comedians (including Kristen Schaal, Kurt Braunohler, and Bobcat Goldthwait) exit Union Hall for the great outdoors. Following recent trends, the jokesters will team up with a band, OK Go! this time, for mutual reinforcement of coolness. 7pm, FREE.

* Thursday, July 19: Abbey Road Sing-a-Long, Little Zelda (Crown Heights): File this one under exruciatingly cute. New Crown Heights coffee shop Little Zelda is hosting weekly sing-a-longs of classic albums. Up this time is the real last Beatles album, Abbey Road. And Zelda's poster has muffins and coffee cups walking across a zebra crossing on Franklin Ave. So yeah, cute. 8:30pm, FREE.

* Saturday, July 21: Hot Dog Cookoff, Pfizer 630 Flushing Ave: The Nathan's hot dog eating contest is all fine and good as far as encased meat-related summer traditions go -- if you just like to watch, that is. For the more participatory-minded, there's "The Great Hot Dog Cookoff," currently entering its seventh year. Twenty-five-plus teams compete -- including some pro kitchens and some vegan options -- and you decide the winners after eating so much. Proceeds benefit the Food Bank for NYC. $45+, 1:30pm.

* Saturday, July 21: Roots Family Reunion, Littlefield: The community of musicians, artists, and Stumptown addicts revolving around the family atmosphere of Roots Cafe in South Slope gather for their annual blowout. Visual artists from the area join Roots owner Brother Hamm and other musicians well-known to regulars at the cafe, Jalopy, and other area venues. 6:30pm, $8.

* Sunday, July 22: Tete Offensive, Freddy's: The monthly spoken word/open mic at Freddy's has a new name, "Tete Offensive," because that's the kind of wordplay word-loving word-worders like. You'll like it, too, because you can say/speak/sing/perform/rap/rhyme whatever you want for five minutes. 9pm, FREE.

* Monday, July 23 and Tuesday, July 24: Wilco!, Prospect Park: The men who made you question your teenage stance that you "like all music except country" and who permitted you to impress that cute girl with the horn-rimmed glasses are playing TWO shows at the bandshell. Sold out, naturally, but the most fun for the big Celebrate Brooklyn shows is when you hang around outside the fence and listen for free. 7pm.

* Monday, July 23: Hot Tub w/Kurt and Kristen, Littlefield: Word is that Kristen Schaal is heading out west (to LA) and that this will be her final second-to-last Hot Tub romp of hilarity. The comedy variety show also features a host of other talents, who will undoubtedly make bittersweet jokes about how they will miss Kristen when she abandons us for that terrible, horrible, no-good city. 8pm, $5-8.
