Whassup: Post-Explosion Edition

via About.com

As the searing images of sparklers, Manhattan-framed fireworks and enflamed s'mores slowly fade from our retinas, there appear other sparkly fun things to enjoy. Behold, it's Whassup: Post-Explosion Edition:

* Thursday, July 7: Piper Theatre Presents "The Miser," Old Stone House: The Brooklyn company's free theater series (Thursdays and Fridays, July 7-22) showcases work by Brooklyn-based artists and an all-Equity cast. A modern-day adaptation of Moliere's "The Miser" welcomes picnic munching Slopers and sentient bears on the ball fields behind the Old Stone House in Washington Park. The company's second staging, "Endure," a play about marathons that guides i-Pod-synced audiences from Old Brick to Prospect Park, premieres July 9. 8:30 pm, FREE, with reservation required.

* Friday, July 8: Goose Rally, Prospect Park: Show solidarity with our honkingest bretheren as they face the annual threat of government-directed gas attacks. The "No Geese, No Justice!" gathering commemorates last year's slaughter, protesting to avert more carnage before the kill contract expires July 15. Enter at 5th or 3rd Street, PPW. 6pm-8pm.

* Friday, July 8: Los Lobos, Bandshell: Spanish for "the" (plural form) "wolves" (also plural form), the Latin American stage staples funkify rock and blueselate folk. Other Latin groups open, including Mexico City's poppy Hello Seahorse! 6 pm gates, FREE.

* Saturday, July 9: Roots Family Reunion, Southpaw: Folky troubadors, several familiar to patrons of South Slope's Stumpton fountain, Roots Cafe, bring a boot-stampin' hootennany to the Southpaw stage. 7:30 pm, $8.

* Saturday, July 9: Myspace Party, Bell House: More evidence of Bell House's remarkable talent for discovering new things to celebrate -- this time around, it's an Internet era (just) in the past: the early 'oughts of Myspace, LiveJournal, camerphone pics, limited cell minutes -- and maybe John Kerry? The party will dredge up the guylinered sights and sounds of the Get Up Kids, Franz Ferdinand, and Hot Hot Heat. A photobooth and Friends Page replicates our clumsy, pre-facebook attempts to overshare. There is, naturally, a facebook event page accepting RSVPs (and song requests). 10 pm, FREE.

* Monday, July 11-Saturday, July 16: Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, DUMBO/Billyburg: Q-Tip is just the tip (hehe) of a crew of rhyme slingers curated by the Q himself. Monday's "Show & Prove Super Bowl" pits indie hippers against unsigned hoppers to earn a spot on Q-Tip's Saturday stage. Various prices and times.

COMING UP:

* Saturday, July 16: Total 4th Ave. Immersion: The Brooklyn Based crawl/block party hits up Mission Dolores, the Rock Shop, Cherry Tree and Pacific Standard, all sousing Immersers on free Brooklyn Brewery pours. Things, for some reason, end up French at the end with a $1 Bastille Day show of French bands and burlesque at Littlefield, 2-3pm. Get an Immersion card at Oaxaca or Cherry Tree DOS--only 500 avail! Noon-6pm.
