Whassup: Enforced Fun Edition

Reggie Watts / via Duncan Davidson

Ah shit, guys -- June is almost over. WTF, how did that happen!!?? GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY SUMMER ALREADY! Welcome to Whassup: Enforced Fun Edition:

* Thursday, June 23-Sunday, June 26: Undead Jazz Fest, Various Venues: Welcoming the sounds of new jazz and improvised music to 11 venues that are cool (Bell House), hip (Littlefield) and unorthodox (Cross Fit Gym? Homage Skateboard Facility??), this fest tries to blow the dust off of jazz. No drink minimums or over-the-hill hep cats snapping in your ear, just new, fresh music. Check the calendar for show times and venues.

* Friday, June 24: Reggie Watts, Red Hook Park: Comedy, music and improvised beatboxing -- Reggie Watts doesn't really fit into pre-set entertainer boxes. So, it's best just to check him out. 7pm, FREE.

* Saturday, June 25: Park Slope Craft Fair, John Jay HS: If there's one thing I've learned in this 'hood, it's that Park Slopers love buying random crap sold on the sidewalk. Well, do it for a good cause. Pick up jewelry, photos, threads, soaps, grub and more, benefitting Brooklyn schools. On the sidewalk on 7th Ave. b/t  4th and 5th Streets. 10am-5pm.

* Saturday, June 25: Opening Show at new space, Open Source Gallery: Open Source does up their first show in a new space, after the Associated Supermarket fire gutted their old one on Fifth Avenue last year. Long-story short: female tiger trainer. Paintings. Multi-media. Theater. Artist Naoe Sazuki brings a multi-media installation inspired by her painting series, in turn inspired by a novel about a real-life woman tiger tamer. Aaaand a play inspired by ALL OF THAT by Anne Phelan of Dramahound Productions. 7pm, FREE.

* Sunday, June 26: Filmwax Screenings, Fifth Estate: The film series showcases Aussie filmmaker Jack Feldstein's "Neon Animation," a combo of live action video and public domain cartoons, "neonized" through the technologies to look traced by neon signs. Over the top of this trippy shit, Feldstein layers his stream-of-consciousness narratives. 6pm, FREE.

* Tuesday, June 28: Battlestar Galactica TV Party, Bell House: You know what sucks? Summer! God! Free outdoor concerts, tanned beach bodies, all these cool people outdoors. GET OVER YOURSELVES ALREADY! Luckily, Secret Formula brings relief in the form of dorky TV, indoors, with beer. Be all pasty and nerdy and just have fun sci-fi-ing out. You know you want to. As with all of these gigs, there'll be trivia, costume contests, themed drinks and suchwhat. 8pm, $5.
