And so this is Christmas...season. If you work in retail, you have my deepest sympathies. All of that Christmas music... If you feel like going postal, seriously, I'd understand. For the rest of us, there still remains the task of putting off Christmas shopping in order to spend money on ourselves in Brooklyn bars. Welcome to Whassup: December Beers Edition:

* Thursday, Dec. 6: Adirondack Brew Takeover, Beirkraft: With winter slowly rearing its global warming-tamed head, the best thing to do is to get pre-drunk before the first cold snap. Because as we all know from the only thing we learned in college, being drunk = invincible. Some fine brewers from the wintry crowns of the Adirondacks are taking over Bierkraft's taps tonight to get you good and started on your winter buzz. They'll be pumping shit like Bear Naked Ale, Imperial Stout, and Red Rye IPA. 7pm, FREE (for entry, the beers still cost money, duh).

* Saturday, Dec. 8: Make Robot Animals!, Brooklyn Robot Foundry: Cool, bizare shit just keeps popping up in Brooklyn. I'd say we're about one Monorail through downtown from becoming a real-life Disneyland. Well, with more peeing in the subways. Anyway, here's another bit of preciousness to coo over: a robot foundry! This one's really for the kids, if you hadn't guessed. An engineer and doctor of education lead this workshop, helping kids do the whole STEM thing in a fun way. Don't know about you, but I would have been that one kid who made an evil robot bear with sharp teeth and rocket launchers in its paws. Is that an option? 12:30pm-4pm, $70.

* Saturday, Dec. 8: Gowanus NITE Market, Film Biz Recycling: Speaking of Brooklyn's transformation into a carnival land, here's this: A monthly conglomeration of vendors, plying their fare amidst the kitsch of Film Biz's movie props. You'll also find a DJ, video game battles, and other childhood-into-adulthood entertainments that today's 20-somethings so love. Every second Saturday. 7pm-Midnight, FREE.

* Saturday, Dec. 8: Biblioball, Bell House: Ain't no party like a librarians' party, cu'z a ***SHHHH***. But, in all seriousness, librarian was a hip, semi-ironic job for young people a couple years ago, so that probably hasn't entirely worn off. 8pm, $23.

* Monday, Dec. 10: Jason Lytle (of Grandaddy), Union Hall: You might remember the anthemic indie band from the early 'oughts, Grandaddy, especially if your freshman roommate wrote about music for the school paper. (I'm dating myself.) But, anyway, here's to lead singers from our youths stepping back onstage. 9pm, $15.

* Tuesday, Dec. 11: Christmahanukwanzayear Quiz Thing, Littlefield: Ring in the holidays -- ALL OF THE HOLIDAYS -- the best way possible: by showing off what a smart-ass you are. Answer questions and win prizes from Brooklyn Brewery and other local good places. 7:30pm, $8-10.

* Tuesday, Dec. 11: Whiskey Coke Reading, Freddy's: Brooklyn is a fuckin' literary scene, top to bottom. From the heights of the institution, e.g. Paul Auster, down to the DIY, punk ethos of the "Having a Whiskey Coke With You" kids. It's a curated reading, with bands and open mic afterward. And they will drink you under their table full of zines. 8pm, FREE.

COMING UP: 

* Thursday, Dec. 20: No Office Holiday Party, Littlefield: FiPS is teaming up with a few Brooklyn bloggers-in-arms (Brooklyn Based, the skint, and Brokelyn) to once again throw an office party for all of you freelancing, coffice-dwellers out there. Or, really, any of you out there that like you some Wyatt Cynac and DJing from the Party Like it's 1999 folks. Getting smashed at Littlefield is the new photocopying your ass and making out with the receptionist. 8pm, $8.
