The FIPS guide to NOT getting sexually assaulted
It's late and you've had your fair share of drinks at High Dive. Now it's time to get home. Here's the FIPS guide to NOT getting sexually assaulted as you mosey down the treacherous streets of the Slope.
* First, make sure you're not wearing a short skirt. Just kidding, we don't slut shame around here.
* For God's sake, put the earbuds away. Don't you know there's been 14 sexual attacks since March?
* Check to make sure you're not low on pepper spray. NYC has specific rules about self-defense sprays. Pick some up from a licensed dealer, like Neergaard Pharmacies.
* If you've got time for a class, stop by the Center for Anti-Violence Education on 5th Ave. The CAE has added more self-defense workshops in light of the recent attacks.
* Lots of self-defense sites recommend staying alert with keys in hand and keeping distractions (like your phone) put away.
* In need of company? There are a number of volunteer groups to escort you home late at night depending where you live. Program these numbers into your phone and remember to call with enough notice so a volunteer can get to your location.
