Mezcal's Is Up For Sale

Photo by Photo by Patrick Siggins / NY Magazine

A tipster recently sent us this Craigslist ad, which lists a 5th avenue restaurant space for sale. It's described as a 2,300 square foot, 2 floor, 3 bathroom spot for $120K (with an estimated $4,500 in maintenance/month).

The photos are a bit blurry, but I contacted the real estate agent who confirmed that the mystery restaurant was indeed Mezcal's.

Since the joint listed is said to have a giant back patio, one can assume it's the 396 5th Avenue location between 6th/7th street, and not the one on the corner of President.

Do we even need two Mezcal's in this neighborhood? Let me know your thoughts.

Cool or Not Cool: Asking Neighbors to Pay Your Back Taxes?

Photo via the Daily Slope

Remember when 2nd Street Cafe was pretty much the only affordable place to get a good frittata on 7th Avenue?  You'd leave, having created a masterpiece in crayon on your butcher paper tablecloth, and take a look at the building on the north-east corner of that intersection. God, you'd think.  If Miss Havisham decided to move into a Brooklyn storefront, I bet she'd choose that place.

That would have been years ago.  2nd Street Cafe is long gone, but the derelict building on that corner is still there, and it hasn't changed at all.  This is mostly because their 24 separate and distinct building code violations have still not been remedied.
The building is owned by an absentee landlord family --specifically sisters Rachel and Evelyn Nash-- and when CB6 tried to track them down to request they fix up the derelict shit-hole, the Nash Sisters were nowhere to be found. They own the building outright, but it seems they haven't been able to re-pay a loan taken out to pay the back taxes.  They are in now danger of losing the building entirely.

Rumorsville: With (maybe) another kid on the way, will Jennifer Connely move back to the slope?

Celebrity slash breeder Jennifer Connelly and her hubby, Paul Bettany, are moving again.

Once a regular fixture in Park Slope, the couple ditched their sweet mansion at 17 Prospect Park West for the more cemented pastures of TriBeCa four years ago. The sweet digs -- a penthouse on 288 West Street, overlooking the Hudson with a 40’x45’ outdoor space -- has recently been listed for sale at a reasonable $8,495,000. That’s a cool million and a half more than the $6,995,000 they paid for it.

Show Me Yours: Call For Submissions!

We here at FiPS are pretty voyeuristic (read: window peepers with a raging case of status anxiety). Turns out you guys are too! When we first posted "Show Me Yours," which features Park Slope apartments and how much people are dishing out for 'em, FiPS readers went ape shit. We love this feature, and need more submissions to keep it going! So if you want your pad featured on FiPS drop us a line with some info and photos (they do not have to be profesh snaps, btw). And take a peek at this past example so you know what info to send along!

Happy window peeping.
