[My Favorite Park Slope]: Sit-Down Coffee Break Spots

Image Via Chinae Alexander

New York has officially made me a minor coffee snob. Some days I wish I could just go back to thinking a cup of joe at Dunkin' was the fucking jam. But I can't...and you probably can't either.

For a runaway cup of coffee, I'll do Gorilla or Cafe Grumpy -- my favorite coffee in the Slope. The drinks are excellent and there's never any room to sit...anywhere (unless you want to sit in the garbage collection area outside of Gorilla, where you'll find me pretty much every Saturday morning).

But sometimes you just want to sit and actually enjoy the fine art of coffee-ing, rather than using it to prevent waterboarding a co-worker before 10AM.

Here are my two favorite sit-down coffee joints in the Slope:

The "New Ozzie's" Is Kind of Adorable

This weekend I checked out Noella Brew Bar, the new café recently opened by Melissa Rapoport, the owner of Ozzie's who did not take our recommendation to call the place "The Fucked in Park Slope Café." Because of the storefront construction and scaffolding, it's easy to miss the entrance on 7th ave and Berkeley, but once inside the place is quite cute: jazz music, nice lighting, adequate seating. I ordered a hot chocolate ($4, creamy and not too sweet!) from a friendly barista, and peeped some delicious looking red velvet cake on the counter. They don't have much for food at the moment, only offering a vegetarian chili alongside the typical scones, bagels and croissants on this particular day, but perhaps that will change once the joint gets it sea legs.
