Hip Hip Hooray For Gay Marriage!

Photo via Will YakowiczSince the State Senate passed gay marriage on June 24th, New York City has been preparing for the LGBT wedding celebration takeover! Yesterday 823 couples signed up to get hitched in NYC. Among them were Park Slope residents Barbara Pilgrim, 83, and Geraldine Whitsett, 76 (featured in the above photo, via Park Slope Patch). Together for 48 years, these women were the first to tie the knot in Brooklyn. Awwwyouguys. Congrats to all the newlyweds!

Celebrate your Gay Marriage This Weekend With Marty Markowitz!

New York made history on Friday, June 24th when the marriage equality bill passed and that weekend was one huge celebration. Governor Cuomo signed the bill into law late on Friday evening, and by the time the NYC Gay Pride Parade winded down on Sunday evening, even the straightest people we knew were rawkin' a rainbow flag and a hangover. But newsflash: it takes 30 days for bills to go into effect, which means this Sunday, July 24, it's officially legal for the gays to get hitched in New York State!

Oh heeeeeey, it's time to party all over again!

Of course, anyone who's had to go to the DMV knows that government organizations are usually closed on Sundays. But like TD Bank, New York State now has Sunday hours (albeit just this once), as all five City Clerk's Offices will be open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM this Sunday to start ringing in the gay marriages.

Goodbye, Kamp: We hardly knew ya!

When KampThe Fifth Estate’s weekly gay night - started up back in February, we were excited. Finally, a high-energy alternative to the buzz-kill gay scene at Excelsior and Ginger’s. But after a few months of trying to grow Kamp, organizer Jace Meagher departed The Fifth Estate. As of last week he has effectively left Kamp without a head counselor, which is closing the door on yet another Park Slope gay night.

FIRST GAY PARK SLOPE WEDDING WINDOW?

Now that this whole gay marriage thing is legal here in NY, we knew it would just be a matter of time before local businesses started jumping on the gay wedding bandwagon. For the new bridal shop on 7th Ave between Berkeley & Lincoln, Sposabella Couture Bridal, that time is NOW.

Thanks to FIPS reader Elyse, behold the first (that we've seen anyway) gay Park Slope wedding window! As you can see, two lovely lesbian mannequins (one femme one in a lovely strapless gown, and one lookin a bit more butchy in a tux) are tying the knot. Mazel Tov!

I sincerely hope that the current physical distance between them is not an indicator of what's to come in their relationship, but whatevs. I'm sure we have some friendly Park Slope lawyer who would be more than happy to handle their lesbian divorce in five years.

Any of you FIPSters see any other examples of Park Slope marriage equality windows yet?
