Brooklyn Blogger's Meetup...For A Cause

On Tuesday May 17th, all our fave blogs/sites (FIPS, duh, The Skint, Brokelyn and Brooklyn Based) are throwing our second annual Brooklyn Blogger's Meetup at the Bell House. AND, it's being sponsored by Signpost, the social network for bargain hunters. Yay!

Last year, this get together was OFF THE HOOK. We had tons of fab bloggers, and pretty much everyone got shitfaced.

Tix are $5 each, but that's because we're raising money for a really amazing cause.

BK Flea Spree

FIPS friend Kate Payne just wrote a snazzy new book: The Hip Girl's Guide to Homemaking, so obvs you should totally buy it. And lucky for us, we're participating in a fun shopping event today that Kate's hosting at the BK Flea!

"BK Flea Spree, a game where five Brooklyn bloggers will shop the market for $25 worth of home décor. The squad of awesome local writers will scour the Flea for inexpensive ways to spruce up their spaces in a Hip Girl–inspired style."

Amanda and I are gonna hit up the flea from 11am to 1pm in search of some fab stuff, and then each blogger's items will be displayed and put up for a vote on the Hip Girl's site. You can follow along with the fun on Twitter by following hashtag #bkfleaspree...I'm sure we'll mostly be making snarky comments back and forth at each other in between our tea cozy purchases, but whatever.

FIPS Nerd Alert: Free Comic Book Day Comes to the Slope

From "Local" by Brian Wood & Ryan KellySo being a supreme nerd and comic book writer on the side (look here at this shameless plug), I felt it was high time we give props to Park Slope for being the left breast of New York's comic bosom.

We've got the shops, we've got multiple resident creators, and we even host a comic show in November called King Con at the Lyceum. The nerds really run the asylum here and they have plenty of places to get their fix. There are more comic book stores in this area than in any other neighborhood in New York.

WIZARDING WORLD SEXPOT TO GRACE 92Y WITH FLAT ABS, STRONG JAW

Danny Radcliffe has finally completed all seventeen Harry Potter movies AND his stint as a maniacal, naked horse whisperer in Equus. These days he’s back on Broadway starring alongside semi-forgettable actor John Larroquette in a revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

The 92nd Street Y is hosting an event in which Raddy will talk about film and theater and maybe what it’s like to be super fucking rich. “Broadway Talks with Jordan Roth” is going down on Monday, May 9th
at the Kaufmann Concert Hall on 92nd and Lexington.

Tickets are going for $29-$35, unless all of the Potterheads have snatched them up by the time this shit’s posted.
