COOL OR NOT COOL: A BABY TAX IN RESTAURANTS?

By way of Gothamist comes word of a restaurant in London that apparently recently charged some chick and her 6-week old bebe a "tax" for simply breastfeeding her kid and taking up space with her gigantic SUV stroller.

"Natasha Young brought her six-week old son to Cosmo, a large chain restaurant in London, to breast-feed him. When she received her bill, there was a £3 (about $5) charge tacked on, reportedly because her stroller was taking up space."

Needless to say, this chick went bonkers, yelled "STOP THE PRESSES" and took her story to every news outlet that would listen to her whine and moan. At which point the restaurant apologized and explained that their "tax" is actually not for babies or strollers but for toddlers who eat some food, but not as much as kids who order meals.

Uhm, what!?

Here's what happened:

Cool or Not Cool: Bike Barrel Lane Created to Slow Bikers the F*ck Down?

Recently two pedestrians have been hit by bikers flying down that ginormous hill on the West Drive in Prospect Park. The latest incident involved a 55 year-old park volunteer who was struck by a biker as she stepped off the bridal path and on the main road. She was rushed to Kings County Hospital where she was put into a medically induced coma because of the nature of her injuries.

After a similar accident in June, a task force of city agencies and park users was assembled to address the issue of safety on the West Drive. Park Administrator Emily Lloyd has maintained that they are addressing the needs of all the park users, bikers and pedestrians alike: “We’re looking at a broad array," she says. "I don’t think there’s a silver bullet on this one."

Cool Or Not Cool: Starbucks May Hire Bathroom Attendants, Require Receipts to Use Loo?

While in Istanbul for my honeymoon earlier this year, I noticed that there were a lot of Starbucks. On one occasion I desperately needed a bathroom, so I did what I do in New York: went into one of them. Imagine my surprise when I found out one needs a security code printed on a receipt to gain access. It was the one moment in which I was truly, painfully homesick.

Well, it looks like we may be taking a cue from our international friends. A new rumor claims that NYC area Starbucks will soon take similar action, either in the way of receipt codes or bathroom bouncers*.
