Breaking: Atlantic Yards Rally Tomorrow Morning

The Battle for Brooklyn rages on.

The People For Political and Economic Empowerment (P.P.E.E.), a group that helps train and place hard-to-employ people in construction work, is organizing a rally tomorrow morning to protest the lack of promised jobs at the Atlantic Yards site and other development sites in the greater Downtown Brooklyn area.

The rally is going down from 9:30-11:30AM @ Atlantic and 6th Ave (the location was updated since the poster was made). Read more about it HERE

Battle For Brooklyn is still playing at the  Brooklyn Heights Cinema -- I highly recommend checking it out.

Dear Barclay's Center Rendering Artist

Dear Barclay’s Center Rendering Artist,

I don’t know how to break this to you gently, so I’ll just say it: your renderings are TERRIBLE. Ssh…shh…it’s okay; please don’t be sad. I’m telling you this because I want to help you. If people keep pretending this stuff looks good, you will never improve.

Barclays Arena Construction: Sucking Balls Both Day and Night

A FIPS reader sent us a link to this YouTube vid. The description reads:

This construction is going on til 3AM all week on 5th Ave below Atlantic. Had to move in with a friend because the noise made sleep impossible -- the apartment was literally vibrating. Apparently they have a night permit to lay gas pipe for the Nets stadium. Because slowing traffic during the day would be worse than forcing people out of their homes at night?

For shame, Barclays. For shame.

Must See: Battle For Brooklyn

Photo: Tracy CollinsAfter eight years of filming over 500 hours of footage, filmmakers Suki Hawley and Michael Galinsky have chronicled the ultimate "If you see something, say something" in their rightfully raved about film, Battle For Brooklyn.

When the Atlantic Yards Project was announced back in 2003, there were mixed emotions about the proposed 16 skyscrapers and a large sports arena that many of us have now come to loathe. Sadly, our community was divided. While many strongly opposed the looming eviction of nearly 1,600 tenants whose property fell into the footprint of the design plan, some residents supported the project for the promise of jobs and the excitement of having a major sports team in our neighborhood.

Barclays Trying to Class Up The Joint With Announced BAM Integration

So I'm pretty sure you all know how I feel about the Barclays Center. Not. A. Fan. I take it that a decent number of you feel the same way. The Arena's baby daddy, Bruce Ratner, announced something last week that he's hoping will assuage all of you brownstone Brooklynites from not totally hating his downtown monstrosity.
