Shout Out To Roadify.com
They were out on 7th Ave yesterday spreading the word: WELCOME! Roadify gives commuters a way to exchange information with each other to help with parking and public transit.
Roadify is a platform for sharing traveler intelligence. It helps you find parking, catch a train, make a flight, find the best driving route and more, by giving you easy access to real-time information from other commuters and transit data sources (like Google Transit, Traffic.com, MTA, etc.). We think of Roadify as the first comprehensive “social transportation” company, combining social networking with a wealth of published transit information.
ParkingAroundMe (PAM) is a free service that lets fellow drivers tell each other about available street parking through text messaging or Twitter. We're starting in Park Slope Brooklyn (focused on the area around New York Methodist Hospital) and plan to cover the rest of NYC very soon.
Also, can you bitches take a cue from Jason and be "friendly parkers"??
A message from a GIVER: Be a friendly parker, please.
Hi, my name is Jason, I'm somewhere in your top ten givers. I love what you are doing and support it to the best of my ability. I wonder if there is a way, possibly through you guys, to educate people a little bit on "friendly parking."
So often we lose spots in the slope by people not doing they're best to park with others in mind. The biggest issue for me is the corners and the hydrants. People dont park close enough so that more spaces are created. So often you see a place where there might have been room for another car or even two but the person parked 18 feet away from a hydrant or 7 feet away from a corner. It just takes a little thought as to how the next person is going to park to make more spots available, in the end, that next person could be you, without a parking spot. Or worse, squeezing in (because it's 2am and you have to park somewhere) to a place that doesn't quite hold your car and risk getting a ticket or even towed.
It sounds like a rant, perhaps, but it's not. I think there should be some kind of suggestion box or community forum or even a little three of four sentence blurb on your site about "thoughtful parking" or something to that effect. Maybe there are some other great ideas to add!
Thanks,
Jason
***It¹s a simple thing to take a second to make sure someone else can park too. We are working to get Jason¹s ideas onto the website permanently but wanted to be sure to let everyone hear em ASAP.
