Park Slope Will Soon Be Home TO a New Whisky Bar

For all you folks fretting over the Slope’s relative lack of upscale drinking establishments, I have great news for you! According to DNAinfo, a new, high-end Scottish whiskey bar is headed to the corner of Fifth Avenue and Bergen Street sometime this winter. Together we shall warm our frozen limbs and frost-bitten faces with single malts at the bar, which will be named Duke of Montrose.

The bar’s proprietor, Steven Owen, already owns a highly-praised bar of similar flavor on the Upper East Side called Caledonia. It’s been praised by New York magazine as "a small, serene drinking spot" with a "fine selection of Scottish brews like Innis & Gunn and Bellhaven, and yes, lots of Scotches." Sounds like it’ll be perfect for our beloved North Slope!

There’s obviously some concern that this bar, which will be in close proximity to Barclays Center, will end up catering to only arena patrons. Owen would like assure us that he’s very intent on catering to the community and maintaining a local feel. Let’s hope they’re able to keep this promise!

In the meantime, we should take a group field trip to Caledonia! Those Upper East Siders won’t know what to do with themselves once all our flannel and skinny denim takes over their streets. The bar is located at Second Ave. and 83rd St., which, according to Google Maps, is about a 6 hour trek from Park Slope via the subway. It may also be the location of a Hellmouth, but it’s hard to know for certain because no one’s ever successfully made the trip there and back. Of course, while we’re up there we can say hello to our favorite Real Housewives or cast members of Gallery Girls. And beware of that giant, gaping hole in the ground, AKA the Second Avenue Subway. (We don’t get to make fun of the UES very often here at FiPS, so thanks for letting me get that all out!)
