[MY FAVORITE PARK SLOPE...] Vet: Dr. Morehead at Animal Kind
IMAGE VIA PARK SLOPE LENS
Yo, we like lots of shit in Park Slope, and this is where we're gonna talk about it all. Got a fave Park Slope somethin somethin? Email us and let us know, who, what, where, or why you love someone or something in Park Slope as hard as you do.
If you read this blog regularly, you already know several things:
1. I am totally fucking obsessed with my dog Oliver
2. I am way the hell more annoying about my dog than you are about your bebe
3. I take better care of my dog than I do myself.
And so, finding Oliver a killer vet was a bit of a process for us--I wasn't just gonna take his ass to any ole doctor and call it a day. And while we have always been patients of Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital, we never really connected with any of the vets until we found Dr. John Morehead. Now I will not see anyone else.
Dr. Morehead rawks my face off and here's why:
- He really, truly, madly, deeply loves animals - I know it's easy to assume that all vets love animals, but it would also be easy to assume that all doctors love people, and I can attest to the fact that that is DEF not the case. Dr. M is different, and it shows.
- He figured out that Oliver has allergies. This might seem like an easy one, but we had been to like 6 other vets (a few of them were actually at Animal Kind) and everyone was treating Oliver's itching problem topically...no one figured out that something else was going on, and Dr. Morehead totally did.
- He doesn't automatically make us do 15 extra tests that each cost $17 billion dollars, and will always let us know round about how much things cost ahead of time. He's always happy to write us out prescriptions so I can get em online instead of paying gillions of extra dollars getting stuff there.
- Finally, the proof is in the pudding: he sticks thermometers way the hell up Oliver's ass and the dude STILL loves the guy.
Also, this is from his bio on Animal Kind's website: "When asked if there was anything else he would like to add, he stated, he would like to add twenty pounds of muscle and more hair (on his head, not his ears or back)." I mean, adorable, right???
Now, Animal Kind def has some semi-annoying qualities: it's always packed, their waiting room isn't big enough, we almost always have to wait 30 mins or so for appts AND stuff is always like 3x more expensive there than it is if you order it on the internet. BUTTTTT, they do have killer hours, are open 7 days a week, and have always been super duper accomodating whenever we have had an emergency. So for the most part, I really have no compliants. And since Dr. M is there, we'll be patients forevs.
Sidenote: if anyone reading this is a big shot at either a radio station or TV network, Dr. Morehead totally needs his own show...he has the most amazing, deep, booming voice, with this fantastic southern drawl. He's also tall, goofy, and adorable as all get out. Someone needs to turn him into the Dr. Oz of veterinarians right quick.
