If You Hate Beacons Closet, Sell Your Used Clothes To Two Lovers Instead

Q: Which is worse: an STD or attempting to sell your gently used, designer, tags still on clothing to the buyers at Beacon's Closet? 

A: I WOULD RATHER HAVE A PELVIC EXAM EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR, than ever, ever, ever have to deal with the mean girl, no taste chicks that make buying decisions at BC.

Which is why I was so excited and thrilled to find out that vintage store Two Lovers, on 5th Ave between President and Carroll, will also happily buy your used clothing...and with way the hell less attitude.

I pass Two Lovers often, and always like to stop in as their stock changes quite a bit. The store is beautifully curated, and sells gently used women's clothing/accessories, as well as some fab kids clothes. The shop is airy and open, and unlike Beacon's closet, you won't be fantasizing about murdering everyone who bumps past you as you fight it out for some Forever 21 top. In fact, there aren't any Forever 21 tops...at least from what I've seen. The stock is much more sophisticated and grown up, but still totally accessible. 

And since my closet was busting at the seams, I recently inquired what the process was for selling clothes--and it couldn't be easier. Here's what you should do:

• Before you bring your stuff by, take a walk over to the shop to see what sort of stuff they sell. If Beacon's Closet is more H&M meets Forever 21, Two Lovers is a bit more Anthropologie meets Zara meets Banana Republic. You can definitely find some decent name brands, but they're not really two hipster or rock-n-roll.
• Always make sure to find out for what season they are buying for, as they will usually be a season ahead (i.e. they start buying for spring in the middle of winter).
• Then just bring your stuff by, fill out a form with your info, and leave it! They like to look through your stuff overnight, so you can usually stop by the next day and see what they want to keep and what they don't. 
• When you come back, they'll have a list of all the stuff they wanna buy, and you can either take it or leave it. If you take it, you get your cash, and voila, you're ready to go. 

I wound up just taking the stuff that they didn't want straight over to Housing Works to donate it, cause I was just in a major purge mode and wasn't about to bring any of that shit back into my apt. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much stuff I ended up selling at Two Lovers, and really just felt good about the whole thing.
