Here's Park Slope: King of Cupcakes Dramz & South Brooklyn Pizza

image via Here's Park SlopeDan from Here's Park Slope, back again for your weekly neighborhood roundup.

On Monday, I caught a glimpse of some well dressed extras milling about outside Union Hall along with a bunch of Haddad's trucks, and it turns out they were in the neighborhood to film a scene for a new ABC show called Georgetown about Washington insiders. The interior really does look like it could be a club for well-off politicians, doesn't it?

On Tuesday I snuck a peek inside the soon-to-open South Brooklyn Pizza, on First Street near Seventh Avenue. It's a tiny place with very little seating, and from what I've heard the pizza is tasty if pricey, running about four bucks a slice. Housing Works, also opening soon on Fifth and Garfield, put some signage in their window too. They're hosting a drive TODAY, so head over and give them some of your (gently used) stuff! It goes to a good cause!

Wednesday brought news that a new Austrian restaurant will be opening soon on Fifth and Fifteenth, awesomely named Der Kommissar. They'll sell a bunch of different locally-made Vienna-style sausages (no, not these), along with a wide assortment of beer and schnapps. And a take-out window! Mama Rosa Latin Bistro, the restaurant on Union near Fourth whose main claim to fame around these parts was Crystal Necklace Dude, also closed for business after being open for only seven months.

On Thursday I broke the crazy news that The King of Cupcakes, the mediocre, overpriced cupcake shop on Seventh between 4th and 5th that closed up last week, was in fact owned 51% by Ricky's, the chain that sells cosmetics, wigs, Halloween costumes, sex toys, and whatnot. This place was mismanaged from beginning to end by all parties involved, and represents Ricky's first (and probably last) attempt to get on board the cupcake bandwagon. It's truly a crazy story.

Friday saw the re-opening of Los Pollitos II, the Mexican restaurant on Fifth and Douglass that had been closed for the past couple weeks to renovate. It definitely is a major improvement, as there's now a fully-functioning bar (always good), which has replaced the awkward prep station that used to dominate the restaurant. Also, giant wall paintings that say "VIVA LA RAZA" are always welcomed. Finally, word got around that The Video Forum, one of the last video stores in the neighborhood, will in fact be closing its doors for good on Sunday. All tapes and DVDs are $5 each until then, but DVDs from their "Adult" section are only $4, or three for $10!
