FiPs Top 10: things to do with the Brooklyn Lyceum

via therealdeal.comThe Brooklyn Lyceum is quite literally Fucked in Park Slope. If you frequent the bathhouse-turned-theater/gym/coffee spot/batting cage/rental space/film set/etc, you may be disappointed to learn it is set for auction on February 28th. The 4,000 square ft. landmark building was built in 1908, originally opened as a bathhouse in 1910, and later turned into the multipurpose shitshow of mystifying proportions we know and love...eh, like.

Businesses spread so thin attempting to cater to every imaginable walk of life thrive, don’t they?  I guess not. The Lyceum faces a lien of $5.05 million consisting of four separate mortgages taken out between 2003 and 2006. Damn, Gina!

Owner Eric Richmond has vowed to fight the ruling until the bitter end. I fear it may be too little, too late.  So, in the spirit of FiPS, here’s a top 10 list of things to turn the Lyceum into. Too soon? Too bad.

First, we’d like to preface this list with a quote directly from the Lyceum website:

We are trying to keep art humming in Gowanus and not let the Public Bath #7 be turned into a Duane Reade or a gas station.

Here goes:

10.  Duane Reade

9.    Gas Station

8.    Root Hill: Supersized

7.    The Place Where Bums Go

6.    The Gowanus Aquarium

5.    Eight Apartments

4.    Disney’s Haunted Mansion

3.    Your Friendly Gowanus Walmart

2.    Chili’s

and in an ironic turn…

1. A Bathhouse
