BREAKING: Hanco's open!!

This is a sight for sore eyes:

Hanco's open and ready for bidness!

Here are some shots of the joint:

Pretty sparse - not quite homey yet - especially compared to the revolting but very lived-in oldschool Tea Lounge.

Very clean, and a bunch of hard working fast dudes behind the counter:

Hm, the back of the place sure is clean - I guess they're not quite done with it yet:

No wireless, so it's clear that it isn't exactly gonna be the old hang-out it once was (thank god?) but I'll tell ya what, their food and drink is KICK ASS. Really really rocks. I had no idea what the hell Bubble Tea was, but I've heard about it forever, so I ordered one. Answer is that it rules:

That crap at the bottom? They're "bubbles" which means little balls of Tapioca. (I asked) They're awesome - like little balls of chewy little gummy candy but not in a bad way. Not as chewy. Subtle and kind of savory. Good shit. Here's the menu - ya gotta click it:

$7 for a Vietnamese sandwich?... You can get these for less than half as much in either Brooklyn or Manhattan chinatown. Just saying.

It's more than a little bit awesome to have some bubble tea with trekking into BK's Chinatown or crossing the bridge, but the real test is if this joint can compete with the hideously-named Tea-Riffic on Mott St. That fact that there's no peanut shake has created a hole in the soul.
