BK Gets its Own Vodka
Good news everyone! The next time you pass out on Union Street, all you have to do is look at the bottle smashed beside you to remember where you are: yep, Brooklyn has its own vodka now.
Of course, the timing is impeccable. I'm sure we'll be seeing the Russian Dolls swilling this stuff as both bottle and pretty, white teeth gleam at the camera. It's called Brooklyn Republic Vodka, and a Brooklyn-based father-daughter team thunk it up. Kary Laskin, who pounds her vodka tonics Slope-side, and dad, Gary Shokin, an immigrant from the land of vodka (Eastern Europe), brew the stuff in a warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Will the same BK pride that makes us pound lagers born in Williamsburg and IPAs hailing from Red Hook make grain alcohol from the Navy Yard a hit? Only if Brooklyn's 20-somethings think it's cheap enough. If you wanna do a taste test, you can stumble home from Cherry Tree or Commonwealth sloshed on local happy juice. Bottles are also for the having, $23 a pop, at Windsor Terrace's Juice Box Wine and Spirits.
