[My Favorite Park Slope…] Store That Sells Things

Matter sells some other things, but they tend to be really expensive things. Items of Interest sells some arty things that are supposed to make you feel things, and Housing Works sells other people’s things.

If you really are in need of a thing to fill up that gap in your life, however, go to Sterling Place, which is a boutique with two Slope locations...nowhere near Sterling Place. They have a fine selection of things in stock and the staff can tell you all about the things they found in an attic somewhere and helpfully marked up. Do you want ‘Brooklyn art glass,’ decoupage tea trays, vintage rocking horses, twee stationery or gold-plated razors? This place has the things for you!

Our Fave Slope Web series is back: F to the 7th.

It seems like everybody's got a web series these days, but we fucking love Ingrid Jungerman's Slope-based F to the 7th. Season Two just kicked off, with Ingrid coming to terms with her newly realized hetersexuality. We're psyched to see future guest stars like Janeane Garofalo, Olympia Dukakis, and Kristen Connolly.

[What You Should Order At…] Dinosaur BBQ: Vegetarian Edition

I’m a vegetarian for a variety of reasons, none of them having much to do with my health. Save your brown rice and grilled eggplant for some other sap. This cowgirl wants a plate of all the fixins (or just the fixins, as the case may be).

It’s hard to avoid Dinosaur BBQ. Because of the size (huge), the price (reasonable), and the atmosphere (fun), it’s the perfect spot for Park Slope 30-somethings who still expect people to show up to their birthday parties. Because of the noise level (high) and the lighting (dark), it’s the perfect spot for Park Slope parents who need to breastfeed their crying babies during lunch. And because of the sides (various) and veggie options (tasty), it’s the perfect spot for Park Slope vegetarians who are eating out with their carnivorous friends.

The Dinosaur offers two vegetarian sandwiches (which must have been created just for PS…I never noticed them at the Harlem location, nor at their flagship in Syracuse). First, the Smoked Veg Melt. It’s smoked cauliflower, Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, caramelized onions, poblano peppers, BBQ mayo, and melted Swiss. It tastes just fine, but for my money, I’d rather have something fried. That takes us to the F.G.T.V., option number two. F.G.T. stands for Fried Green Tomato (I’m guessing the V. stands for Vegetarian). It’s served on a Portuguese roll and topped with pimento cheese, shredded cabbage, BBQ mayo, and chow-chow (a kind of sweet-and-sour tomato relish).

Send Massimo Vignelli A Card.... Now!

Legendary designer Massimo Vignelli, the guy who gave us the amazing 1972 subway map and the current Weekender map, is gravely ill. It is reported that he is spending his last days at home and on Friday it was reported that his son Luca has called for the general public to send him letters. 

The call came out through the Creative Review, Pentagram partner Michael Beirut has this on behalf of the Vignelli's son:

Luca said that Massimo would be thrilled to get notes of good wishes from people whom he's touched or influenced - whether personally or remotely - over the years. Luca has visions of huge mail bags full of letters. I know that one of Massimo's biggest fantasies has been to attend his own funeral. This will be the next best thing. Pass the word.
