Who Gives A Shit: Will You Watch The Brooklyn Version of Jersey Shore?

 Photo via Oxygen

Fuck New Jersey. Soon trashy reality TV will be coming to us by way of our neighbors in Bay Ridge. Oxygen has a new reality show called Brooklyn 11223, which was made from the mold of The Jersey Shore. The two main players they’re trying to sell us on are former best friends, Joey Lynn and Christie. The ladies stopped being buddies after Joey banged Christie’s then-boyfriend. Sounds like classic reality show fodder, right? I hope these ladies cross paths at the Salty Dog.

The show -- predictably -- is trying to manufacture its own Snooki in the form of Carla. According to their website, “With a party-hard attitude and a ‘don’t dish it out unless you can take it’ style, Carla is the ultimate package.” You heard that? Move over, meatballs, ‘cause “Carla is the ultimate package.”

If you care to know, I think supporting cast member Amanda sounds like the most interesting to watch. Oxygen describes her as a true Bay Ridge girl. She's bff’s with mom, not afraid to get into fights, goes out and drinks, and somehow, probably has a steady 9 - 5 job.

So... does anyone actually give a shit about this?

Well, whether I give a shit or not is actually irrelevant because I’m predestined to watch this show. Here’s how it’ll happen: I’m looking for something to watch. I see that Law & Order: SVU is on Oxygen, so I turn to it. Halfway through, I start playing on the Internet. By the time the show is over, I find myself so wrapped up in whatever I found on the Internet that I don’t bother changing the channel. Brooklyn 11223 comes on. Within the hour, I’m off the Internet, glued to the fucking TV, helplessly hooked.

But I do give a shit in this case. One of the appeals of Jersey Shore is that I know their Brooklyn equivalents. It probably helps that some of them picked on me, so I don’t feel too guilty about laughing a bit at their expense. Especially when they’re getting paid to essentially party in front of a camera for the summer. It also helps that I’ve been to a few more clubs like Karma than I care to remember. Brooklyn 11223 goes right to the source of my personal experience, and that really fucking appeals to me.

How about you? Do you give a shit? Do you not? Be honest. Don’t be a hater if you’re the kind of person that caves in and watches this kind of show. You know who you are.
