WHO GIVES A SHIT: Does Your Dog Walk Like A Complete Asshole?

Cause Oliver T-O-T-A-L-L-Y does.

Now look: I know that this is mostly my fault cause I just let him do it, but my dog obsesively zigzags up and down the street like it's his job. I've drawn a diagram of a typical walk down our block, and I swear to you: this is not even remotely an exaggeration.

I don't really have any idea why he does this, other than the fact that he's a Basset Hound and is just compelled to follow his nose wherever the good smells are...apparently the good smells are all the hell all over the place in Park Slope.

It used to annoy the shit out of me, to the point that I'd try to drag his ass into a straight line like my life depended on it. But then I just gave up. Partly because I decided to just not care anymore, and partly because a 60 pound dog with a very low center of gravity is pretty fucking strong and the dude was just always ready to go to battle with me.

So now I'm kind of just zen about it, following his furry ass back and forth and back and forth and back again. It takes us about 20 minutes to do ONE loop around the block (and we live btwn the Park and 8th Ave, so these are way shorter blocks). Trying to navigate down 8th Ave during the commuter stampede when all of Park Slope is coming off the subway and clomping down the block, fast walking home is pretty laughable, but I've decided to just accept it.

So like is this a thing? Does your dog do this too, or am I the only one with a zig-zaggy asshole dog?
