Whassup: Summer Lust Edition
Can you taste summer? That mix of asphyxiating BBQ smoke and sweaty Ultimate "athlete" that means Prospect Park is back in full swing? Glorious, isn't it? This week's Whassup skips right the fuck over spring to gaze with unseemly lust at the concerts and outdoor markets of summer:
* Friday, April 8: Getcha' tix for BRIC's Aug. 2 Sufjan Stevens show, on sale today. Or you can join me in spending nothing and slumming it outside the fence. Either way.
* Friday, April 8: Earthquake/Tsunami Fundraiser, Brooklyn Pub: Yep, the tsunami still happened. And you can still help at this charitable party thrown down by the Knights of Columbus. Drink specials up in this. Raffles. Live music. Warm, gooey, big-hearted feelings. 7pm-1am. $20 requested donation.
* Saturday, April 9: Brooklyn Flea: The Flea is back! Kiss off memories of snow, ice and space heaters by scoping out some outdoor vintage.10am-5pm, 176 Lafayette Ave., Fort Greene.
* Saturday, April 9: Sacha Silva, Tea Lounge: World music by a dude who knows some shit about the world: Silva travels the planet as a development economist and performs a mix of Spanish, Indian and modern classical music. Have him sign your college macroecon book afterward. 9-11pm, NO COVER.
* Sunday, April 10: Wordsprouts, Union Hall: The Coop has a reading series. AHAHAHA--OF COURSE the Coop has a reading series! Come see this cult get even more insufferable. Non-members are "welcome to attend," but you might want to bring along something organic to fit in. Anyway, it's literature, it's Union Hall, it should be cool. 5pm doors, FREE.
*Sunday, April 10: We Ride The Lanes: Give the middle finger to all the PPW bike lane haters and join in for a "we ride the lanes" bike-a-thon/walk-a-thon. The crowds are gathering in GAP at 10:30am and if you make it all the way to the end at 15th street, there will be free hot dogs from Bark and cupcakes from Blue Sky Bakery to reward your bike lane enthusiasm. FREE
* Monday, April 11: Psych, Bikes & Brownies Vinyl Night: Somehow, Bell House's Monday vinyl series is fusing psych records, bikes and brownies. Come find out what the hell that means. First person on a bike wins local psych group Nymph's disc. 8pm, FREE.
* Monday, April 11: Selling Your Home in the Worst of Times. Just because we're still in the midst of a global recesh, it doesn't mean you can't sell your apt. KEEP HOPE ALIVE, PPL. Grab the bull by the horns and hear what the experts have to say at this Brooklyn Brainery class. 7pm, $15.
* Brooklyn Lyceum Theater Internships: The Lyceum wants to help stage luvers get into the play biz with internships in management, including stage direction, and development (read: fundraising). As Shakespeare said, get on that shit.
