Whassup: Al Gore is Momentarily Wrong Edition

Um, hey, remember last week when going out for a cup of sugar (or, since this is Park Slope, a fair-trade latte and a Belgian chocolate bar for your two-year-old) meant at least mild heat stroke? Huzzah! The plague of sweat-stained armpits and global-warming references seems to be over (for the moment). Celebrate with Whassup: Al Gore is Momentarily Wrong Edition!

* Thursday, July 28:
Wrastlin' Doc and Demo, The Crown Vic: Wrestling documentary, "Fake it So Real," part of the Rooftop Films series, delves into the razor-blade-studded world of indie wrestling. After the flick, get a taste of old-school 3D entertainment: otherwise known as real-live people doing actual shit in front of you. In this case, wrastlin' the shit out of each other. Director Robert Greene, and his luchadores, submit to a Q&A following the match. 7:30 pm Doors, $10.

* Thursday, July 28 through Sunday, July 31: Merry Wives of Windsor (Terrace): Cousin 'hood to the Slope, Windsor Terrace gets all bardy up in this, with a performance of Bill Shakes' comedy -- set in '80's Brooklyn. The outdoor showings welcome lawn chairs, picnics and your favorite scent of bug spray. The play's the thing at Our Lady's Field of Holy Name Parish. 5pm Th-Fr, 3pm Sa-Su, FREE.

* Friday, July 29:
Potential Giganticism, Williamsburg Waterfront: A fun game with They Might Be Giants is trying to see if you can tell which John is singing. Another fun game is trying to figure out what their lyrics mean. These games are both just silly (and impossible), just like the band, but what a good time. King of Union Hall, Eugene Mirman, opens with special edition of "Pretty Good Friends," with the role of "friends" played by Todd Barry, Kirsten Schaal and Patton Oswalt. It should be a funny, silly time. And, yes, for the uninitiated, TMBG did the songs that open Malcom in the Middle and Daily Show. 5:30 pm Doors, FREE.

* Saturday, July 30:
Pirates Festival, Ikea Erie Basin Park: So, I'm going to try something different with this one: I'm going to try to convince you NOT to go to a pirate-themed festival in Red Hook. So...I...um...CAN'T FUCKING DO IT! Obviously, you're going to go to a pirate-themed festival in Red Hook. No one in Brooklyn is THAT un-hipster to turn down a FUCKING PIRATE-THEMED FESTIVAL IN RED HOOK. It seems to involve a maritime museum, treasure hunt for kids, and environmental lessons. Ok, cool, that's all a bonus. More importantly: "The Pirates of Red Hook" (!) Let me just conclude by saying scallywag, because I rarely get the chance to do so. 11am-5pm.

* Tuesday, August 2: Clambake Beer Dinner, The Vanderbilt: Prospect Heights gastropub The Vanderbilt (570 Vanderbilt Ave.) pairs suds from the Kelso microbrewery with a summer clambake for this edition of its beer-dinner series. It's a four-courser with summery fare like a tomato and watermelon salad complementing the seafood. Contact 718.623.0570 or info@the vanderbiltnyc.com for tix and such. 7:30 pm.

* Tuesday, August 2: The Laugh Lounge, Tea Lounge: NYC improvisers from PIT, UCB, The Magnet and Chicago’s Second City all together under one roof on the first Tuesday of every month. Featured guests will include the Red Tie Mafia, The Andrews Sisters, Rubin, Solomon & Shaw, GIANT and more.
Also: if you’d like to bitch about something, you can join in on the Laugh Lounge’s mid-show “Pet Peeve Forum,” which will give you a mic and 5 minutes to tell everyone else in the room what gets your goat: The Park Slope parking sitch? Your high-as-shit rent? Your neighbor’s yappy dog? Spill your guts to fellow Brooklynites — it’s therapeutic! 9PM, FREE!
