Vote For Me! No Me! No Me!
I guess the politicking could be worse. But, judging from the glut of local candidates hanging in front of PS 321 at pickup yesterday afternoon, not by much!
While running the gauntlet, a friend greeted me with the question of the day, "They DO have school tomorrow, right? Please, please, tell me school isn't closed."
Because we breeding classes can't take it anymore. We need to cut bait and get this school year going. No more one day of school a week shit. No more days off for at least a month! So don't you even think about shutting down for an election!
Thank GOD! I have checked the calendar and settled my mind. The civic-minded will get a chance to vote for your favorite his and hers district leaders, judges, and assemblers without messing up my plans to GET A JOB today.
Right after I vote. For whom or what, I'm not entirely sure just yet. But near as I can tell, there's a major, earth-shaking election going on today.
So, pickup...Poor politicians. They had only one day to hit us up and make an impression. Which must be why we had political luminaries Joan Millman and Jesse Strauss (fine, i never heard of him before today) pressing the flesh.
Of course, what would a gathering of political leaders of tomorrow be without, yes, my little ray of Hope Reichbach, looking like she's been putting in some long hours on the campaign trail. She wanted me to remind you all to vote. For her.
How the fuck could we forget to vote, I ask you? Every time my phone rings it's some hopeful or their kingmaker. I had ten voicemails, man! One dude tried to friend me on facebook. And the "literature" littering my mailbox. What happened to going green? And let's not forget the competitive hand shaking going on at pickup.
My system of choosing who to vote for is admittedly flawed. They all seemed oddly nice and sincere. What's that all about?
Anyway, Hope wins with me for the sheer breadth of her retail politics. She's everywhere I go. And she doesn't even live in Park Slope. At least I don't think so. So, if she's hoofing it around other parts of Brooklyn as much as here, than no wonder she looks worn out.
I'm for Joan Millman. Do I have a choice? Is anybody running against her? Any way, she seemed nice and human even when mildly dissing Hope as a protege of some evil boss tweed type named Vito. I'd like to be in THAT smoke filled room.
In the "male" district leader category, I'm torn. Jesse's kind of cute and has a nice face and is a lawyer, but I like Chris Owens too and, really, he deserves to win something!
I'm going for Schneiderman for Attorney General because his volunteer caller got me to stay on the phone for five minutes and he's got the endorsements and he looks nicer than Kathleen Rice, whose pictures aren't doing her any favors.
So, I need to hear from you. Why am I even voting? And who should I really be voting for? In your opinion. Make your case. I expect to hear from all three of you who are actually following this campaign.
