Cobble Hill Cinema: Where Pavilion’s Infamous Purple Seats Go To Die

Just when you thought the Pavilion’s infamous Barney-themed purple seats had been shipped away to enjoy a relaxing retirement free of bedbugs, smashed milk duds and spilled Sprite, they’ve reappeared.

GASP!

Simmer down, Park Slopers. You can sleep tight.  It’s our dear neighbors of Cobble Hill who should make sure to purchase some rodent killer along with their next movie ticket.  That’s right, the “Purple People Eaters” have apparently found a new home at Cobble Hill Cinemas.

A tipster passing on his latest raving review of the Pavilion gave us the lead on this one:

Apparently the discarded purple seats have found their way to Cobble Hill Cinema. A couple that were not allowed in their theater in The Pavilion because of broken a/c made their way to CHC.  There, they settled into purple seats still emblazoned with "The Pavilion" on them. At least the bedbugs got a change of venue.

We called the friendly folks at Cobble Hill Cinema, who were more than pleased to tell us about their latest purchase.

Despite Renovations, The Pavilion Remains a Shit Show

 

For those eager to catch the new Spiderman this past weekend (or for those straight men using Spidey as a disguise to sneak into Magic Mike), I hope you weren't totally surprised upon finding the Pavilion's "renovated" theaters looking like a dump. 

Why oh why people are we still going to the Pavilion?!

Despite the trashing of those hellish purple seats and the promise of big renovations, a tipster recently sent us this less-than-desirable photo of a filthy theater (we also  double checked with our tipster; this was the state of the theater BEFORE the movie started and not after some rowdy crowd finished up). Don't Look to the Internet For Pavilion Showtimes

Last week we here at FiPS received an email from a reader who claims that upon arriving at the Pavilion for a 10:15pm showing of Prometheus last Wednesday was told, "There is no 10:15 Prometheus.” When the tipster then explained that he found the showtime on Fandango, the woman in the booth responded, "They're wrong. We're not affiliated with them."

The man arrived home, undoubtedly disappointed at not having had a chance to see Charlize Theron in space. He checked Moviefone and found the same, non-existent 10:15PM showtime listed for Prometheus at the Pavilion.

Having been fucked by both the Pavilion and Fandango on multiple occasions, I did some totally unbiased inFIPStigating on the matter. First, I found out that as of May, 2012, Fandango and Moviefone have merged to create one uber-movie-ticketing-machine, which is probably why both had the same 10:15PM listing.

Did The Pavilion Oversell Tickets To The Hunger Games?

As expected, the film that pairs a Battle Royale-esque notion of kids hunting each other for survival with the sexy teen faces of a Twilight movie has made bank. The Hunger Games will gross an estimated $155M this weekend alone.

Hot damn.

No doubt this initial success means that the film will linger in theaters for the next few months, and maybe into the summer. Why then, knowing that people are going to scramble for tickets from now until forever, would a theater oversell tickets to shows on opening weekend? It appears that Park Slope's own Pavilion theater -- most recently in the news not for its bedbugs, but for its inability to treat an American flag properly  -- has done just that. The Pavilion Can’t Do Anything Right

After a series of complaints regarding the mis-flying of the Pavilion's American flag, the business finally reacted by taking it down. Park Slope Patch recently reported that the flag was violating US Flag Code Etiquettes by being "wrapped around its pole, touching the top surface of the marquee and is not taken down at night."

Further proving their inability to do anything correctly, Pavilion employees simply bunched it up, tossed it down and stuffed it in a plastic bag.
