Park Slope Profiles In Courage: Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge

I thought Jake Dobkin was going to be a hard act to follow, but now that I've communed with Brooklyn Belle Grace Bonney, I'm thinking this is going to be FUN! Grace is the founder of the galactically popular design blog, Design*Sponge, which she started in 2004 when she was like 18 or some unconscionably young age.

Flash forward to 2011, and she's now in the RSS readers of, well, everyone. She has a book coming out soon, speaks at events and conferences all over the place, and basically is her own one-woman design empire...and she lives and works right here in Park Slope! Well, until she jilts us for Greenpoint, anyway.

Gettin Gassy Wit It

Allen McCullough fixes gas lamps in Park Slope. He's done it for the past 20 years...and he doesn't know anyone else who does it. But note to all aspiring gas lamp repairmen: you won't get rich from it.

Still...pretty friggin cool.

FIPS is On The Park Slope 100 List, Yo!

Well, well, well.

Look who's ass made Only The Blog Knows Brooklyn's Park Slope 100 List this year?

FIPS!

Here's what they said about us: "Fucked in Park Slope because you truly are the best Park Slope blog. Seriously though: you bring humor, fun and irreverence to a subject totally worth making fun of."

Aww, shucks. Thanks Louise!

Also, I really think this says a lot for blogs everywhere with curse words in their names. Dream big cuntsinbushwick.com! The future is yours to grab, bullshitinbrooklyn.org! Press on cocksuckersinbillyburg! Our time is NOW!

Oh.

Except that in the list OTBKB actually linked to Fips.com instead of fuckedinparkslope.com.

Oh well! Beggars can't be choosers!

And since everyone on the list is waaaaay cooler than my ass (Brooklyn Based! Brokelyn! Jonathan Fucking Ames!), you should go check it out like NOW.

8 Questions With Playwright Blair Singer

I met Blair Singer on the street. He used to live around the block from us, and he has a Basset Hound named Bill, and I guess that was enough to get me to ditch the whole "don't talk to strangers" bullshit that no one seems to pay attention to in Park Slope anyway.

Greg-n-I started running into the dude a lot...sometimes we'd even walk around the block together. The more we started to talk, the more we realized Blair totally rules...and that, wow, he is a writer! He's not really the braggy sort, so I googled his ass on IMDB and found out he's done all sorts of shit. Like wrote actual episodes of one of my fave shows of all time, Weeds! (a fact that I've still yet to discuss with him, but anyway...). He recently had his play, Matthew Modine Saves the Alpacas, produced at LA's Geffen Playhouse, and now he's bringing it all back to NYC with a new play that is about to open, Meg's New Friend.

You should just buy some tix now, b/c your ass could seriously use some culture...trust me (Greg and I are going Dec 11--wanna have a FIPS field trip?).

The Park Slope 100

Buckle your seatbelts, bitches...its that time of year again.

Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn is putting together their yearly Park Slope 100 list and is looking for suggestions.

In case you're wondering what the fuck the Park Slope 100 is, voila:

"The Park Slope 100 is 100 stories, 100 ways of looking at the world, 100 inspiring people, places and things in and around Park Slope. It can be a person, a place, a thing, even an event. Let me know who, what and where was notable and powerful and 2009. One tip: I especially like people who direct their energies outward towards the better good of others in some way."

Wow, that last line TOTALLY sounds like FIPS, riiiight?
