Blogger To Outraged Prospect Park/15th St F/G Train Riders: STFU

Ok, so perhaps Benjamin Kabak from 2nd Ave Sagas didn't say that *exactly,* however his recent post A Tale of A Viaduct, A Sign And The Need To Pay Attention sends a pretty clear message, and that message seems to be:

  • stop your bitching
  • get a clue
  • you're stupid if you didn't know this work was going to be happening

And by "this work," of course, I mean the news that the Prospect Park -15th St F/G station will not be offering any Manhattan bound subway service until May, beginning next Monday, January 10th. Like AT ALL.

Apparently all y'all should have been attending Community Board meetings, deciphering cryptic messages on the MTA site and doing way the hell more research than you've been doing because, DUH EVERYONE KNEW THIS WAS GONNA HAPPEN! TRANSLATION: WE'RE ALL SO STOOPID.

Park Slope 100 List Dropped

Only The Blog Knows Boring came out with their annual Park Slope 100 list last week. You know, the "fifth  annual alphabetical list of 100 people, places and things that make Park Slope such a special place to live. 100 Stories, 100 ways of looking at the world."

If you can actually get through the whole thing without having to sniff glue to stay awake, you deserve an all expense paid trip to the non-ghetto Target in Harlem.

Personally, I thought the thing read like one of those "senior lists"--is that what they're called? Like when you're a senior in H.S. and they print out each seniors thank yous/memories in a big list, which is really nothing more than a desperate attempt for most of us to ensure that everyone knew that even though we weren't ON the cheerleading squad, we were still FRIENDS with the cheerleaders. I WAS ACTUALLY MORE POPULAR THAN YOU THOUGHT I WAS, PPL.

So yeah, aside from #75 (Congrats, Allison!) it was snoozefest 2010 pour moi.

Cleaning up Brooklyn

I'm kind of in love with The Daily Clean.

The basic premise is this: blogger picks out a disgustingly dirty spot in Brooklyn, sets aside an hour, and cleans that shit up. That's it.

It's mind numbingly simple, and yet they're making a significant, measurable, noticeable contribution to their neighborhood every single day. Bravo.

"The idea is to take an hour or two out of your day and apply it to something useful. The majority of the areas will be rather small, in order to fully clean them within an hour or so. I will try to post the updates daily, in hopes of inspiring others."

The shot above was from Day 3 at Hope St. & Havemeyer, and took the blogger 45 mins.

Why Are You On My Train?

Buck and Rock from whyareyouonmytrain on Vimeo.

I say that phrase to myself in my head, every morn when I get on the Q, mostly because I'm jealous of all the seat hogging motherfuckers already on the train cause I wish I were one of them.

But the two ladies behind the Why Are You On My Train blog seem to have purer motivations: i.e. they just *really* wanna know wtf you're doing on their train...so much so, they'll record all the bullshit you tell them on camera and then post it on their site for all of us to see.

The videos are all kind of fascinating, especially the one above as I SAW THAT DUDE ON MY TRAIN THE OTHER DAY! I feel like singing that stupid "Circle of Life" song from the Lion King right now.

At least according to a lil ole paper...maybe you guyz have heard of it? THE VILLAGE MOTHERFUCKING VOICE!?

Yep, we've made it to the finals of Village Voice Web Awards, and now its pretty much in God's hands. Or whomever's hands are in charge next Tues at Santos Party House when they give those mofos out.

Pray for us.
