Hidden Slope Oracle: The Tea Lounge Bathroom?

Disclaimer so we don't get sued: This isn't the Tea Lounge bathroom (which, all things considered, is actually pleasant). [ed note: SERIOUSLY?? I ACTUALLY FIND THE TEA LOUNGE BATHROOM TO BE SRSLY VILE]. This is the old CBGB bathroom.  But I'm busy providing photographic ponderance material, so go with me here.

This past weekend, I spent a total of nine hours loitering in the Tea Lounge (with good reason, I assure you): seven on Saturday, and then another two on Sunday.  (To be fair, the ratio of $$ to time I spent may work out to a number that leans more towards "squatting" than "loitering.")

Because downing three large, light ice, hazelnut iced coffees with nonfat milk and a Splenda (in case any of you are dying to buy me a drink next time I'm editing) over the course of five hours is basically the equivalent of consuming a box of diuretic pills like they're Flintstones vitamins, I headed to that bathroom a few times.  And let me tell you, Park Slope; the pearls of wisdom you've left up on those walls for urinators to read--well, I'm speechless.

Desperately Seeking Kook

So there's an event at The Bell House. You're all like "Where the fuck is Gowanus?  How far will I have to walk?," but you want to see a band/go to a tasting event/one of Erica's meatups/whatever else they have going on there, so you start walking.

Perched on the corner of a particularly desolate stretch of nothing, on your way to The Bell House, you'll see some pretty expansive graffiti along the way declaring that "Kook wants your soul."  Pretty ominous, except for the "Kook" name.  Of course, when my friend and I left The Bell House about 4 hours later, "Kook wants your soul" was screamed into the night (and on the long walk back home).

Since my first Kook sighting, he's popped up in several places around the nabe.

Who Gives a Shit: Who Shot Rock and Roll?

Who Shot Rock and Roll leaves the Brooklyn Museum on January 31.

I finally got off of my ass last weekend to go and see it.  I thought it was really great, but I should have taken a Xanax before I went, because that place was effing crowded.

So, have you seen it?  What'd you think?

Big Dick in Park Slope

Big Dick in Park Slope from David Livingston on Vimeo.

We get a lot of email here at FIPS HQ, but the one we received today from artist David Livingston alerting us to his onging art project "Big Dick" *might* just be our favorite.

Here's the premise: Livingston wears a 6 foot long flaccid felt penis (stuffed with sofa upholstery, of course), and walks around various NYC neighborhoods documenting people's reactions. Oh yeah, and in "Big Dick in Park Slope," he's also wearing a doll in a baby bjorn.

8 Questions With Playwright Blair Singer

I met Blair Singer on the street. He used to live around the block from us, and he has a Basset Hound named Bill, and I guess that was enough to get me to ditch the whole "don't talk to strangers" bullshit that no one seems to pay attention to in Park Slope anyway.

Greg-n-I started running into the dude a lot...sometimes we'd even walk around the block together. The more we started to talk, the more we realized Blair totally rules...and that, wow, he is a writer! He's not really the braggy sort, so I googled his ass on IMDB and found out he's done all sorts of shit. Like wrote actual episodes of one of my fave shows of all time, Weeds! (a fact that I've still yet to discuss with him, but anyway...). He recently had his play, Matthew Modine Saves the Alpacas, produced at LA's Geffen Playhouse, and now he's bringing it all back to NYC with a new play that is about to open, Meg's New Friend.

You should just buy some tix now, b/c your ass could seriously use some culture...trust me (Greg and I are going Dec 11--wanna have a FIPS field trip?).
