Round-up: Where to Volunteer/Donate To Aid in Hurricane Sandy Recovery

I'm sure we can all agree that Hurricane Sandy sucked huge ass. There are a lot of people without homes, basic supplies and medical attention at the moment, so if you are available to do so, please consider lending a helping hand or two! 

WHERE TO VOLUNTEER

• John Jay HS Evacuation Center (7th Avenue between 4th/5th Streets). Volunteers are needed for minimum 6-8 hrs shifts -- adults only.
• Park Slope Armory (361 15th St. between 7th and 7th Avenue) which is a makeshift medical/frail shelter. Volunteers are needed for minimum 6-8 hrs shifts -- adults only. Shifts where they need the most aid are 8PM-12AM, 12AM-4AM and 4AM-8AM. A tipster wrote in early this morning and said that the Park Slope Armory was looking for more volunteers and that there are a lot of hot guys volunteering, for whatever that's worth.
• The Red Cross needs volunteers. Read more HERE.
• City Hall is looking for volunteers. You can email nycservice@cityhall.nyc.gov and give them your name, email address and borough. They will contact you with ways to help over the next week.
• PS 249 in Prospect Park South is acting as a shelter, and is looking for help from licensed counselors, anyone who can provide temporary shelter and the following items:

• Clothing, both children’s and adult’s
• Coffee and tea
• Kid’s toys and books
• Drinking cups

• NYC College of Technology (300 Jay Street, between Tillary & Johnson, in Downtown Brooklyn)
• Brooklyn Technical HS (29 Ft. Green Place, between DeKalb and Fulton, in Fort Greene)
• John Jay HS (237 7th Ave, between 4th & 5th Streets in Park Slope)
• IS 136 (4004 4th Ave, between 40th & 41st Streets in Sunset Park)
• PS 249 (18 Marlborough Road, between Church Avenue & Caton Avenue, in Prospect Park South)
• IS 187 (1171 65th St, between 11th & 12th Aves, in Borough Park)
• FDR High School (5800 20th Ave, between 57th & 58th Streets, in Midwood)

WHERE TO DONATE
