MY FAVORITE [CLOSE TO] PARK SLOPE Ice Cream: Ample Hills Creamery

We've got a lot of options for cold sweet treats here in Park Slope. Culture, Louie G's, the newly-opened People's Pops -- the list goes on and on. But as much as I love the others, they all pretty much fail in comparison to Prospect Height's Ample Hills Creamery. 

If you haven't been to Ample Hills Creamery (623 Vanderbilt Avenue), here's what you're missing: 24 weekly-changing flavors of handcrafted ice cream -- all made on site -- and all made in small batches using fresh, local, all-natural milk, cream, and eggs.

This isn't just your average chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream either, folks. We're talking insanely creative flavors, like Ooey Gooey Butter Cake (vanilla ice cream with gobs of St. Louis Ooey Gooey Butter Cake pieces); or the Baked/Unbaked (Vanilla ice cream with homemade pieces of baked chocolate chip cookies and unbaked chocolate chip cookie dough). Their flavors include some of the best combinations I've had in years. 

In addition, Ample Hills has a famous Salted Crack Caramel, which is made up of salted butter caramel ice cream with pieces of Deb's famous crack cookies (Saltines, butter, sugar, chocolate). I die. (side note: this flavor sells out pretty much every weekend).

Oh, and if that weren't enough, they even make their own cones -- just get there early to try them, as they tend to run out super early in the day.

That's a homemade cone with Ooey Gooey Butter Cake on the bottom, Salted Crack Caramel on top. I mean, can you even? 

Ample Hills Creamery opened in Prospect Heights on May 26, 2011, after a summer of selling ice cream out of a cart to Prospect Park concert-goers. They famously closed their doors 4 days later, running completely out of ice cream. On Memorial Day weekend, they celebrated their first anniversary. I went Saturday, Sunday and Monday (don't judge me), and if the lines were any indication, I'm guessing that they'll be celebrating anniversaries for years to come. 

I'm telling you, people. I love Ample Hills Creamery so much, I may actually move there. Fucked in Prospect Heights, anyone?
