Macy's Might Move its July 4th Fireworks Back to East River Because of all our bitching (YAY!)

Oh, goody.  

Macy's (the department store that owns Santa Claus, Thanksgiving, and all related copyrights and trademarks) has agreed to meet and discuss the possibility -- but they're not making any promises, mind you, and this is all just tentative, so don't get your hopes up because this could go in a couple of different directions and they're not saying they will or they won't but they'll just entertain the idea -- of bringing the 4th of July fireworks back to the East River so that people in Brooklyn and Queens can actually see them.

As long as Macy's doesn't kowtow to the pleas of New Jersey to keep the fireworks on the Hudson, this will be great news for Slopers -- especially the ones who don't have their roof-top views of Manhattan blocked by the giant red "STAND-UP MRI" sign on 5th Avenue.  

But when it comes down to it, it's Macy's we're talking about here. Who are they likely to love more? Residents of Brooklyn and Queens who pay taxes to pay the salaries of the people who issue permits to a private company that floats barges in the river to set off fireworks?  Or the residents of a state that elects a governor who may well be in the control group for evolution?

I have a feeling when it comes to July 4th fireworks we'll all remain, still, fucked in Park Slope.
