Merry Christmas in July! (From Your Park Slope Neighbors)
My favorite house in all of Park Slope lies on 11th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. There's nothing special about the place. Architecturally, it looks like any other brownstone on the block. But the owners are serial decorators -- addicted to those over-sized inflatable lawn decorations you normally find in the suburbs. For Easter, they prop up two giant, pink bunnies. Thanksgiving? A massive turkey. Halloween brings a big pumpkin (though I vaguely remember a witch stirring a cauldron one year). And for Christmas, of course, we get a massive Santa Claus (Frosty the Snowman takes over for the rest of the winter months). It's amazing. I've lived on the same block as these people for six years now, and they constantly entertain me with their fun, monthly decorations. My roommate and I even spent a year snapping photos of the front of the festive building and used them created a pretty sweet wall calendar.
Anyway, I thought you'd all love to see what was waiting for me on the walk down the block this morning. That's right folks -- it's Christmas in July. Only 6 more months of shopping until the big day. Merry merry!
Have you seen this house before? Love it? Hate it? And more importantly: should I mass produce that calendar? You'd buy it, right?
