Listen Up: BK Attacker Still On The Loose
This past Friday while the east coast was preparing for Hurricane Irene, a man suspected of attacking five women in Brooklyn since March seems to have struck again. Around 8:30PM the alleged assailant grabbed a woman from behind near the Prospect Ave subway station. She kicked and screamed, and he fled.
I'm sure most of you haven't forgotten the harrowing events that went down a few months back, but for those who need a re-cap: Back in March a woman was attacked on 16th street. This incident was caught on a surveillance cam, which cops apparently took their sweet ass time confiscating. In May, two women were attacked in Bay Ridge, and in June a woman was attacked in Sunset Park while entering her apartment building. All of these women were able to fight off the would-be rapist. A Greenwood Heights woman, also attacked in June, was not as lucky. After leaving a neighborhood Dunkin Donuts she was followed back to her apartment and raped.
Police singled one man out as a suspect, 24 year-old William Giraldo. He matched the description of the suspect and was seen on a surveillance tape inside the same Dunkin Donuts the woman believed she was followed home from. But it sounds like he may not be the guy. First, none of the other women attacked could single him out in a line-up. He also has an alibi for the night of the Greenwood Heights attack.
Via The Daily News:
But Giraldo has an alibi - he drove a fare to JFK Airport right after stopping for coffee - and police sources said there's a good chance he'll be cleared by a grand jury.
"I know I'm innocent," said Giraldo, who was released on bail but was in immigration lockup when one of the other attacks occurred.
"I gave police DNA voluntarily. I have nothing to hide," he added. "My whole life was turned upside down. I got caught in a big misunderstanding."
So we're back at square one.
The Daily News pointed out something that's especially unnerving: The attacker may be getting bolder. In the first five incidents he attacked women late at night, between the hours of 10:30PM and 4AM. This woman was attacked at 8:30PM.
Brooklyn ladies, for fuck's sake please be careful! And if any FiPS readers know where one can easily purchase pepper spray in this 'hood, drop an anon comment in the box.
