Hurricane Sandy: Here She Comes

Ok folks: let's get it started

Have you been hearing about this hurricane Sandy thing-y? Cause shit is now getting real.

The MTA has announced that they will be shutting down their whole damn system tonight at 7pm in preparation for Sandy. That means, subways, buses, trains, planes, automobiles. Fine, I don't think the MTA owns any planes, but if they did, they'd be shutting them down too.

Keep in mind that it takes 8 full hours to shut down the entire subway system, so there may be some trains running after 7pm, but just to be safe, you better get your ass wherever it's going by then. They have no clue how long it will be shut down...only Sandy knows that.

Speaking of planes, most flights this eve have already been cancelled. And if you're stupid enough, like me, to even attempt to go to Costco (WORST. IDEA. EVER) and/or the supermarket today, I can pretty much tell you that all of the water, batteries and all alcoholic beverages are already gone.

As for evacuating, most of us in Park Slope are lucky enough to live on some of the highest ground in the whole damn borough, though if you live in Gowanus shit is looking a bit more bleak. You can click here to see what evacuation zone you're in (though I just tried it and it wasn't working, natch). The Mayor has already ordered mandatory evacuations for everyone living in zone A (so that's Brooklyn's Coney Island and Manhattan Beach, Far Rockaway and Broad Channel in Queens, South Beach, Midland Beach, and other low-lying areas on Staten Island, and Manhattan's Battery Park City)...everyone else: stay tuned.

Are you ppl in Hurricane Sandy prep mode? Are you drunk yet? Have you ordered 7 Tomato-n-Basil pizzas JUST IN CASE?
