HURRICANE SANDY AFTERMATH: OPEN POST

I'm so T-O-T-A-L-L-Y blown away by all of the amazing volunteers, donors, and just general kindness I've seen in our neighborhood and beyond in response to Sandy recovery efforts.

Many of our FIPS writers were out and about volunteering all weekend, and we'll continue sharing as many volunteer and donation opps as we can on FIPS and on Twitter

What are you guys seeing? Did you volunteer this weekend? Make it out to any of the badly affected areas? Donate stuff at the Armory? Tell us how our post Sandy world is looking from your perspective.

As a sidenote, here's a great article on the importance of really checking out what's needed by various communities and organizations before making donations. Needs are literally changing hour by hour (as anyone who has donated at the Park Slope Armory knows), and many organizations no longer need any clothing, water or food. So make sure to double check before donating, to ensure you're contributing needed items that won't go to waste.
