Funky Little Shack

Pic by Steve Schnibbe via The Brooklyn Paper

I promised myself I would refrain from making a Love Shack reference. But alas, I couldn't resist... So, anyway, have you heard about the cop shack shacking up outside of Mayor DeBlasio's house? The 5-0 fortress popped up on 11th Street outside the mayor's home and not everyone in the immediate hood is happy about it.

Obviously erected for security purposes, the NYPD post comes complete with picture windows on all four sides, bright lights. electric hook-ups and a 24-hour guard posted. Worst of all, it takes up two parking spots!!!! Two parking spots in a neighborhood where parking already sucks. The hut is only the latest in a slew of inconveniences for the folks on 11th Street including frequent road closures and the press constantly plugging up the area. And on Thursday, security cameras went up all around the mayor's house.

Now, the DeBlasio's announced in December that they were hauling ass out to Gracie Mansion, but there has been no posted timetable as to when they're making the big move. And, according to the Brooklyn Paper, neighbors say they can't haul ass soon enough. When asked about the shack, Lourdes Leong said, "It's an eyesore. I thought he already moved to Gracie Mansion--why does it take so long?"

Not everyone is miffed, resident Alan Emdin said told the Brooklyn Paper that the extra security was a good thing.
