[Fips Was There...] The Prospect Park Food Truck Rally
We here at FIPS spend a hell of a lot of time out and about in Brooklyn, attending outdoor concerts, comedy shows and various other events. So [FIPS Was There...] is where we're gonna' talk about all this shit.
It was hot and sticky this past Sunday as food trucks fired up their grills. This, of course, could only mean one thing: the Prospect Park Food Truck Rally is back in Grand Army Plaza for the season. From April through October, some of the city's most well-known trucks will gather on the third Sunday of every month (along with everyone else in Park Slope). I stopped by to sample a few goodies, which was totally worth braving the heat for.
The vendors are nothing you haven't seen (or eaten) before -- Big D's Grub, Coolhaus, Cupcake Crew, Eddie's Pizza Truck, Frites n Meats, Gorilla Cheese, Kelvin Natural Slush, Kimchi Taco Truck, Mexicue, Milk Truck, Pera Turkish Tacos, Red Hook Lobster Truck, Rickshaw Dumpling Truck, Valducci's Original Pizza, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Wafels & Dinges -- but because they're all so close together you can totally hodgepodge an entire meal! For example, you can hit up the Kimchi Taco Truck for an appetizer, Frites’N'Meats for an entree, and Cupcake Crew for dessert. Done. Speaking of mish-mashing food, if you haven't tried the random pairings in a Coolhaus ice cream sandwich, it's worth the trip. Especially if its gonna get hella hot this summer.
Lastly, for anyone who tuned in Sunday night to Bob's Burgers, which features the voice of Park Slope's own Eugene Mirman, the irony of the food truck fad wasn't lost. "What's so great about getting food from a truck?," Bob asked in the episode. "There's no seating area, no bathroom, and long lines. Who eats like that anyway?"
He's got a point, but I wouldn't turn down a Talde Food Truck. Pretzel dumplings and an afternoon in Prospect Park is a match made in heaven.
Did you attend the rally this past weekend? If so, what did you sample?
