FIPS Top 10: Reasons living here is worth the money

Image via apartmenttherapy.comNo doubt you are all aware that living here is costly -- brokers fees, first month's rent, last month's rent, security, next of kin, left arm, creative property, any patents or copyrights you may possess. You may not be aware that Brooklyn has ranked 2nd most expensive place to live in the U.S. for five years running. The only place more expensive? Our slightly flashier neighbor to the Northwest: Manhattan. Shocker!

Number crunching statisticians (with a shitload of time on their hands) left no stone unturned, taking into account not only rent and home costs but more than 50,000 extraneous charges like the price of milk and haircuts. Now that’s thorough.

In a positive turn on this wallet-raping reality, I’ve decided to make this week’s Top 10: The reasons I pay top dollar to live in a teeny tiny apartment.

10.  Coney Island

9.    Brooklyn Bridge Park

8.    1 Hanson Place/Brooklyn Flea

7.    Big J’s Wines and Liquors (lowest prices anywhere)

6.    The Bellhouse

5.    Fairway

4.    Champs Diner

3.    The Iron Society (best Haircut in Brooklyn…and it’s cheap!)

2.    The Cherry Blossom Festival @ Brooklyn Botanical

1.    The Promenade

So, the next time you find yourself whoring for the man -- literally, figuratively or both -- try to remember that it’s all to live in close proximity to a bunch of stuff that's really fucking far from Westchester.
