Fifth Eye Optix Shut Down, Owner Screams at Here's Park Slope Dude
I had a horrific run-in with the owner of the weird Fifth Eye Optix earlier today, and thought you/ possibly your readers would be interested in hearing about it. I saw that it was seized by the city, so I snapped a photo of it and walked on. Suddenly this woman was on top of me, with her cameraphone out, and she started yelling about how
she's going to take my photo, too. I assured her that she wasn't in my photo, but she went on.
Apparently she's under the assumption that there's some sort of city organization that's been taking photos of her store for years, lurking around every corner, conspiring to shut her down. Even after showing her my business card and letting her know that I just wanted to report the closing on my blog, she kept railing into me, saying how it would be full of lies, and how "we people" have been conspiring to shut her down for five years, breaking all her merchandise, how they threw her husband in jail (!), and how she refuses to be next. She also refused
to believe that it was just a coincidence that I happened to come along on the same day that they shut down.
This went on for literally fifteen minutes, even after I assured her that I'm basically on her side, and offered to report her side of the story. I finally just said that I'm sorry that she had to deal with all that and that it's just a misunderstanding. She still didn't believe it and kept shouting as I escaped her clutches.
Some people!
I looked around to see if there were any online reviews that painted this woman in the same frenzied manner. The joint has nary a review on Yelp, but there were a few Google reviews, which all gave her glowing reviews:
- "The owner really know her business and has lots of patience."
- "The lady who owns the place is the nicest salesperson I have ever met! She was just like my mother or something. And she was also very patient. I spent more than an hour trying on sunglasses before I decided on a pair, and she never bothered me or made me feel any pressure to buy."
- "The proprietor really knows her business; she's helpful but never pushy, and I've recommended this store to all my friends."
Has anyone ever been into this place? If so, what was the vibe?
