Cool or Not Cool: Changing the Speed Limit on PPW

Park Slope's 20 block stretch of controversy (Prospect Park West) now has another log of contention thrown onto the fire: speed limits. An advocacy group call Right of Way whose self-appointed mission is to lower speed limits throughout New York City, has now set its sights on the PPW.
As reported by 1010 WINS, the group has posted signs that read: "20 IS PLENTY" this is an effort to push the City Council into lowering the speed limit. The group's motivation is the tragic death of Samuel Cohen Eckstein who was killed by a van at Third Street and PPW last month.
Keegan Stephen a member of Right of Way told 1010 WINS: "Almost everybody we ran into knew the Cohen-Eckstein family and was very supportive and think that cars need to be going slower there, especially because it’s alongside a park where children play.”
Agreed, but some say there's a problem: the group's signs look like actual speed-limit signs. Some say this can be mistaken for taking the law into your hands and fooling drivers into reducing their speeds. One woman told 1010 WINS that this tactic may do more harm than good: "You have to go through the proper channels because what’s going to happen is the signs are going to come down and nothing’s going to get done.”
Cool or Not Cool: Should they change the speed limit on Prospect Park West? Are Right of Way's signs the right way to go about it?
