All We Have To Do, Now, Is Take These Lies And Make Them True

Have you noticed the increasing problem of people leaving locks on tree trunks around the city? Neither have I. But, Rob Birdsong apparently sees this all the time, and he has just launched "a 30-day New York City based tree project called The Treedom Project." They have a website, a Twitter feed, and an Instagram with lots of pictures of imprisoned trees around the city.

But, here's the thing. This all seems a little made up to me. Especially since the e-mail we received from Mr. Birdsong claims he saw the first occurence of a locked up tree last summer, and now, almost a year later, they have "freed" only 10 trees. Plus, that video they made seems like a parody. I can't decide which part I like best: 1. "This is a street with trees (shows view of street with trees), and this is a street with no trees (shows view of street with no trees). Trees. No trees. 2. When they borrow the bolt cutters from the hardware store and then show every attempt at getting the lock off the tree, instead of just showing the final cut that freed the lock. 3. When George Michael's Freedom 90 kicks in.

So, I don't know what the fuck is going on here. Maybe this is a real problem and Rob Birdsong is a good-hearted crusader or maybe the jokes on us. What do you guys think?
