A Week Ago Today... Oksana and the Monsoon
It's hard to believe that just a short seven days ago, I was dodging downed 200-year-old trees and standing in torrential rains for the annual skate school performance of Lion Kings on Ice at PP's Wollman Rink.
Guest starring.... OKSANA BAIUL. I suppose I'm the only one who is still giddy at this totally unexpected moment of grace.
It's true that I'm an easy touch and am still trying to live down the time I shouted "I love you" to Richard Gere as he walked by my family stuck in traffic on Broadway in our powder blue chevy impala station wagon. The one that seated 16 comfortably and had many deficiencies, possibly the worst being the lack of a muffler.
But, wow! When somebody mentioned that an Oksana was skating, I was picturing some two-hundred pound broad from Brighton Beach, not a bonafide "ginuwine" Olympian. And a gold-medalist at that. Brought back the good old days when Nancy Kerrigan was getting hit in the knee by crowbar wielding goons hired by Tonya Harding's hubby, Jeff Gilloooly (sp?). I always loved that name.
Anyway, some pictures, taken by Youth Star Photography, or something like that...
