A FiPS Guide On Where to get your holiday crap
It's that time of year, folks. If you didn't set up your Christmas tree immediately after digesting your free range organic turkey, then you're already behind. Here are some places where you can pick up a tree:
* The usual Vermont-based sellers in front of the Key Foods on 5th Avenue and on 7th Avenue.
* There is a stand outside the CVS on 9th Street.
* If you're in the market for an organic tree, head to the stand outside the Park Slope Food Co-op.
* The stand on 8th Avenue and 8th Street across from Saint Saviour Elementary supposedly delivers.
* Lowes has a number of live and fake trees.
Gothamist even has a handy map to track down tree sellers.
Here are a few tips when it comes to choosing a tree:
- Measure the height and width of the area where you plan to place the tree before purchasing.
- Perform a limb test by pulling on the limbs of the tree you are considering buying. If more than five or six needles come off, the tree is too dry and you'll want to look for another one.
- Be sure to water your tree daily throughout the holiday season. A good rule of thumb is a quarter of water for every inch of stem diameter.
If you're in need of some Hanukkah gear, the Clay Pot has some fancy menorahs and the specialty candles. On 5th Avenue, Scaredy Kat carries menorahs along with a wide selection of holiday greeting cards and cute gift wrapping paper.
