Dead Man Found in Prospect Park

Photo credit: Enid Alvarez/NY Daily News

Yesterday, nearly all of the local news outlets reported that the dead body of a 50 year old man was found by a homeless man behind Litchfield Villa in Prospect Park, late Sunday night. Scant details about the man's identity have been provided (pending family notification), except that he is believed to be a New Jersey man who had been reported missing recently, and early reports seem to point to suicide.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Mid-century NYC crime photos + modern locations = Photographic Genius

Check out these photoshopped combinations of mid-20th century NYC crime scene photographs and present day shots of the same locations. The collection features quite a few shots from Brooklyn including: a woman on a brownstone’s second floor ledge, swinging a frying pan at cops coming out the window; and the tragic 1960 crash that dropped two commercial airplanes on the streets of Park Slope.

Creator March Hermann calls the project “New York City: Then and Now." Hermann, a photographer and historian, made these stunning composites with photos he found digging through the extensive New York Daily New Archive.

Brooklyn Restaurant Serves Up Silence: Rattled Mom’s Dream Scenario or Meal-arky

Photo credit: Keith Bedford/Wall Street JournalOn September 15th, Eat, a Greenpoint Brooklyn restaurant, held a 90 minute dining event where everyone had to STFU! If you spoke during the meal you had to pick up your plate and hightail your verbal ass out the door to an awaiting bench where you could talk to yourself or a random passersby, like (SPOILER ALERT) Cate Blanchett’s character at the end of Blue Jasmine.

This night of silent munching was pretty successful. None of the fourteen diners spoke, so no one was booted. The restaurant plans to do it again! Does this sound like a blissful evening out for all you Park Slope Mamas? There would be no “Hey, no fair, he got a bigger piece!” or “Mom, why do you drink so much wine?” There would just be peace.

Watch BMX Champ Bust Tricks on a Citibike

By their very nature, Citibikes are built for practicality and longevity. Chief engineer Bruno Gauthier says they were designed for the “urban jungle”, comparable to a Hummer or a family car, not a Porsche or a race car. Hardly the kind of bike a cyclist could be expected to bust sweet tricks with. But that didn’t stop professional BMX rider Tyrone Willams from doing just that on the streets of Brooklyn. Watch this video to see him pop wheelies, jump stairs and do all sorts of other tricks one a Citibike as much ease as a hipster uses one to bring home Whole Foods groceries. If you’ve seen any other unorthodoxed uses of Citibikes, tell us in the comments.
