Forever Brooklyn: One Filmmaker's Love Letter To Brooklyn

Forever Brooklyn from Francesco Paciocco on Vimeo.

We fell in love with the film work of Francesco Paciocco last year, when we watched Sandy and Satie, a short piece he filmed and edited during Hurrican Sandy that made the violent and destructive storm look mesmerisingly beautiful. Now he's back with Forever Brooklyn, a four and a half minute short film in which he visits 20 neighborhoods in an effort to capture the spiritual and cultural feel of the borough as a whole. Mission accomplished, we think. Do you agree?

The New York Islanders Ride the Choo Choo to Barclays!

via by Bruce Bennet via NY Daily News

I know people looooooove the Barclay Center now, what with the MTV Video Music Awards apparently thinking it put Brooklyn on the map and all. But did you also know the tin roof... rusted that Jay-Z built will be giving us the New York Islanders in 2015? Oh you did. Well I didn't, okay? I don't follow hockey.

Anyway, after their 2014-15 season the NY Islanders will hang up their hats in Nassau County and make the move to the County of Kings. In what can only be described as the corniest PR move in recent history, the entire team rode to their first Barclay practice on the LIRR in their jerseys. So Long Islanders, don't fret, you too can get on a train and see the team that abandoned you -- and only have to make three annoying transfers to do so.

TV Shoots Take Over The Slope This Week

Walking from Prospect Heights to Park Slope yesterday, I counted three separate TV productions with No Parking signs up all over the place:

- Unforgettable is a CBS show starring Poppy Montgomery, Dylan Walsh and Jane Curtain. Shooting today on Prospect Park West from Union to Garfield, Carroll between 8th and PPW, and 7th Ave. between Union and 1st.

- The Affair is a Showtime series starring Joshua Jackson, most recently of Fringe fame. Took over St. Johns Place and Plaza Street East yesterday.

- White Collar loved us so much in June, they came back for more, taking up space today on Union, 8th Ave., PPW and Plaza Street East. No Matt Bomer sightings yet.

Yet Another FIPS Food ROUNDUP!

Maybe you've been a bit busy over the past week. Maybe you haven't been able to keep up with all of the hood's recent food news. It makes sense after all, as there's been a hell of a lot going on in the world, what with the downfall of Carlos Danger and the whole Syria thing and the still-lingering effects of Miley Cyrus being OH SO BAD. Fret not, lemmings! This here Park Slopish food news roundup is designed to fill all the tasty, tasty holes in your heart.

On Tuesday, Park Slopers awoke to the news that Zito's, the Italian sandwich shop that at one point appeared to be part of a resurgence along 7th Ave, was closing. The owners took to Twitter to announce that they'd lost their lease on their original 7th Ave location, leaving only their 5th Ave shop open. Fortunately, Zito's signed a ten-year lease on the 5th Ave space & have plans to expand their delivery area so, for now, folks will still be able to get their fix of Autogrills...all without having to travel to stupid 7th Ave!

Buy A Friend For Only $30 An Hour

Image via amiwithani.tumblr.comGawker stumbled across this gem on the Ami with an i Tumblr, and notes that someone in Prospect Heights has made up a new job called "Book Therapist."  For the low, low price of $30 an hour, Lucy Sun will go out with you for coffee or tea, and help you find a good book to read. Then, she'll read the book you're reading, so that you can talk about it, and how it relates to your life, and then she'll give you well-meaning advice about your job, your love life, and your friends and family. And it'll only cost you $30 an hour.

Call me crazy, but that sounds to me like things that you do with friends. I go have hot beverages with my friends. I tell my friends about the cool books I've read recently. And whenever my friend, uh, "Penny" -- for purposes of this post, we're just going to call her Penny, okay? I mean, everyone else does. At least, to her face. Wait, where was I?  Oh, yeah -- when "Penny" starts complaining about her job and how her sister is such a bitch to her and how can it be that Honey Boo Boo's mother is getting married and she can't even find someone to date -- well, I often tell her what I think she should do. Because I am a friend to "Penny." Even though she's fucking annoying, sometimes.
Oh, you know what?  Lucy Sun says in her flyer, "I'll read it with you, so you'll have a friend in the process." So, she's actually being transparent about this. Good, Lucy. Because I don't like being friends with people who are less than honest -- especially friends to whom I'm paying good money. Also I can't stand people who chew gum with their mouths open.
