5th Avenue Is Getting A Sweet Ass Bakery
Hey guys! I know we're all pretty stressed about today's Park Slope Food Coop hummus debate, so how about some excellent news to pass the time? Fifth Avenue is getting a new bakery, and by the looks of it, it's going to be fucking awesome. Here's Park Slope recently reported that Du Jour Bakery will open in the space most recently occupied by Perch Cafe as soon as this summer, with construction beginning later this week.
TJ and Vera Obias, a husband-and-wife pastry chef team, will helm the shop, and they've got some pretty serious cred between the two of them. Restaurants they've worked at include: Morimoto, Gordon Ramsey at the London, BLT Fish, The Russian Tea Room, Dovetail, and Buddakan. Just writing about this place is making me seriously hungry.
The place will serve classic pastries, baked in-house daily, and will source locally when possible. They're also going to serve soups and sandwiches and a "killer brunch" (I fully anticipate my tombstone to read: "He drank one too many Bloody Mary's"). Eventually they'll add a dinner menu as well.
We'll be checking in with the Obiases next month once they've moved into the space, so stay tuned for a full report! And now you may return to your hummus-induced stress.
