WHO GIVES A SHIT: Has The 'Summer of Crime' Influenced You To Change Your Routine?

Like are you *actually* doing shit differently now that there are one or more maniacs on the loose?

Cause I totally am.

Here's my new routine:

  • Take off my headphones BEFORE exiting subway.
  • Hide my iPhone deep in my bag...and I mean deep. I don't take that sucker out anymore since I'm equally afraid of getting my iPhone stolen as I am getting attacked.
  • Only walk on crowded, main streets.
  • Have my keys in my hands, ready to stab someone's eyes out at a moment's notice.
  • I've ditched my blase "I'm a NYer and I don't care about anything around me" tude, and now I'm scanning everyone who walks by me like I'm an Israeli secret service officer.
  • If I hear someone fast walking behind me, I turn around and step aside to let them go by.
  • If I HAVE to look at a text or send one on my phone, I stop where I am, do it quickly and then hide my phone again. I find when I'm iPhone-ing and walking at the same time, I'm not paying attention to anything going on around me.

As a sidenote: this is a major change to my normal routine, which would either consist of: listening to music, talking on the phone, or scanning twitter/email on my way home while busily ignoring and not paying attention to anyone.

What about you guys? Have you actually switched things up?

I hope the hell so.
