Who Gives a Shit: Do you think Park Slope's Historic District Should be Expanded?

Current historic district in black / Proposed expansion shown in green / Yellow and red indicate possible future expansions.Today is a big night for the Slope, you guys. For today, the Landmarks Preservation Committee will vote to expand the Park Slope Historic District. What does this mean for us who live just outside the current historic borders? Last month, the Brooklyn Paper reported on both pros and cons for residents in the proposed expansion areas:

Many South Slopers have mixed feelings about the plan, saying they expect the landmarking will protect property values and the community’s charm — but worry it will create costly and tedious home maintenance rules that will turn every trip to Home Depot into a mess of bureaucratic red tape.

Peter Bray of the Park Slope Civic Council — whose group has been pushing for the landmarking for years — said the end result is well worth any added costs. “People live in Park Slope because it’s unique,” said Peter Bray, chair of the group’s historic district committee. “It has a sense of place that would not exist if buildings could be altered or demolished willy-nilly.”

Does this mean we won't be able to paint any more houses a frighteningly loud shade of Pepto Bismol pink
